Hey guys, a friend of mine in Christchurch (in a TCL covered area) just bought a place and is looking at getting a phone line. So he decided to go for Telstraclear (phone line only)

To cut a long story short, he called them up to sign up, etc. It was all good.

A few days later, he gets a call from the Telstraclear techy who is supposed to carry out the connection, explaining that to get connected to the service he must also get the internet service with the basic phone line.

Whats the story here?

Doesn't need it see http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/inhome/packages/index.cfm

look out if their cable is on the other side of the street from your house they won't cable you up, happened to me in Wellington couple months ago.

It needs to be financially viable for TCL to run service to the property if it hasn't been pre-cabled
