last night. Said that they were launching VDSL in Auckland in 2 weeks. And our house would benefit as we are connected to a cabinet just up the road. But we would need to have our wiring upgraded in the house. Anyone else heard anything about Telstra offering vdsl in Auckland?

They have had business VDSL2 pricing published for some time:

I wouldn't expect their residential pricing/plans to differ much, but I would like to be proven wrong...

I suppose you're paying for the upload speed. If Annex M was available here, the $200 business plan would be completely useless.
That is assuming they keep them in line with the business plans, then its just a big yawn.

I also had the same door knocker down in CH.
It was quite funny, he told me all the cabling/cabinet work was for Telstra and NOT Telecom.
I DID have to correct him on that pointing out the bit outside my house actually had a Telecom lid on it and that the cabnitisation plans are freely accessible on chorus's site.

I also had to point out cable was not an option in my part of CH and Telstra had already confirmed that PDQ internet would pretty much run as fast as Telecoms internet. (They are all running through the same cables)

LORD I wish if I get door knockers at least they are given the correct information.

I'd be skeptical of the 2 week time frame, but TelstraClear's consumer unbundled services are not far off, and VDSL2 is obviously apart of that consumer offering.

Then why are they doing the same in my region where the cabnetisation is just taking place?
We are not VDSL or even close to getting there (We just have ADSL2+ cabinets) as as far as I know we are not being unbundled (I might be wrong there).
Yet, still the same push by Telstra it would seem.
I was really pleased when I rung them 2 years back to hear them say, "Look, for our PDQ offering we couldn't give you any better speed than the ADSL your on". That was honest, open, and very refreshing to hear. I respected that and was willing to look at them again if they ever got an all you can eat plan.

These Telstra door knockers do seem to be poorly informed for whatever region they are working in. (I've heard of a few more)
Nothing against the door knockers, but from my own experience Telstra/whatever company employs them seems to be feeding them a warm pile of bull.
IMOHO It reflects quite badly on Telstra if the person they are trying to sell stuff to actually knows what is happening better than the person trying to sell them the Telstra services.

As a follow up to this, I had my door knockers team leader contact me.
He came over personally to apologise reguarding the mis-information and set things straight.
He's making sure it is plain and clear his team understands exactly whats going on.
Kudo's to him, Fantastic way to deal with the issue.

A good friend of mine had a TCL Door Knocker recently, one of many over the last two years, apparently.

To quote him directly:

insisted on coming inside to see the bill on the internet via my private email. I told him I was busy but he kept insisting to come inside and asked if I had "someone in there".

By this point I was getting ... annoyed and said no I would be fine with Telecom, at this he insinuated I wasn't busy and said I was "just being lazy". He also seemed frustrated I didn't find paying the bills difficult and wanted to know what I did...

Wow.

He's written to TCL about this but I haven't heard if he's had feedback yet.

That really doesn't sound like any "normal" door knocker.
Sounds more like someone trying to see if there is anything worth stealing.
They CANNOT and have no right AT ALL to come in the door, UNLESS you say it's OK.
I'd tell your mate to be VERY wary right now.
I spoke with the TL of the door knockers outside, not even in the porch.
Neither to door knocker or the TL asked to come in at any time.

Tell your mate next time they come over to ask for their telstra ID number and then get them to say "Thanks I'll talk to Telstra myself about this", then go inside and close the door.
If they are legit Telstra people they should be able to provide that info, (In fact it should be easily visable)
If they can't or won't then somethings majorly wrong.

Part of that would be asking permission to come and if it's not granted to simply leave people alone. After all they don't want to co-erce a sale (that and it's technically trespassing)

Also if they gave their Telstra ID Number and that guy rang up Telstra to connect then wouldn't they get the sale ?

There are some pretty strict guidelines as to what door to door salespeople should and shouldn't do. If you have any concerns then definitely call the company they are representing and make your feelings known.

As for the door to door salesperson getting the sale if you call up on the phone... I doubt it. The phone staff work on commission too, and the commission would be paid to whoever actually entered the sale onto the system.

If they were a proper Telstra door knocker they didn't deserve the commission.
My concept was get their id, if they can't provide it their fake, if they can you have a positive ID number to give Telstra to complain about/the police to report. (Be sure to check the photo on it. My door knocker's id had a photo).

IMOHO this is simple security. If your willing to trust someone who you never met and is getting pushy wanting to come into your house, calling you a liar then your your own worst enemy.
Comon all, we can have some quite expensive kit inside our houses, so can our friends.
Scarily enough, I reckon this sort of thing will get worse in a month or 2. (Getting closer to Xmas it always seems to.)
