After being without service on my 021 number for 48 hours, I finally got ported back to Vodafone from 2Degrees on Wednesday.
Since then, I have noticed unusual delays receiving most texts after doing things like texting "bal" to 777, sending a command to Twitter, or texting our local bus info service. Regular texts from Vodafone appear to be received quite quickly, but all these other texts, including texts from 2Degrees, usually take between 5 and 7 minutes to arrive.
I appreciate that there are no guarantees when it comes to text message delivery, but in the past with Vodafone, a text to 777 is normally returned with a response text very quickly, now this is also taking 5 to 7 minutes.
I've ensured all references to the 2Degrees Message Centre etc are removed from the phone.
I called Customer Service this morning and they say they've received many complaints like mine from 2Degrees people who have ported back and are experiencing the same delays. They claim it is being worked on.
Firstly I wondered whether anyone from Vodafone can confirm an issue.
Secondly I wonder if anyone else who has ported back is experiencing the same thing.
Finally I'm quite curious as to what causes this. I don't know how the SMS protocol works, but I suppose I imagine it being similar to changing your DNS server, where perhaps things take a while to propagate.
Any thoughts much appreciated, and certainly I'm hoping for a resolution. Not much fun waiting 7 minutes to find out when the next bus is.
