I've recently replaced my old broken modem with a Linksys WAG54G2 ADSL2+ wirless modem and am now looking to get ADSL2+ speeds.

Been with WXC on the River plan for the last 4 years and get reasonable speeds (5Mb/s) -

I'm only about 500m from Courtney Place exch.

Contacted WXC and they said that the only way that I can get ADSL2+ is by moving onto Fusion, which I don't want to do because I'd need additional hardware.

I've been happy with WxC but it looks like I'll need to move to another provider (don't particularly want to go back to Telecom)

Can anyone suggest another provider who delivers a good ADSL2+ service at a reasonable price but doesn't lock you into a 12/24 month contract with $$$ cancellation fees?

Currently have home line/calling and mobiles with Telecom so ideally only want to move broadband.

Hi there, if you have a WAG54GP2 you do not need any new hardware.
You will have to change the way the phones are wired to get the VoIP phone service.
You could anso just put a cordless phone in the back of the WAG and all will be good.
A word of warning, if you are moving data over the wireless, a file or even an update in the background your phone service becomes unusable which is a pain.
Get word exchage to port your number and all will be good.

Unfortunately I have a WAG54G2 not a WAG54GP2 so I don't have the telephone ports on the back of the modem - I'd need to get an adaptor to run Fusion.

i know you've stated you dont want to go back to telecom - they're still one of the best of not the best in terms of reliability and international connection speeds (bar the big time plan) ... i went straying away to slingshot and returned the minute my slingshot contract expired. having said that i went back on the double your data promotion ...

yeah - I've heard that Telecom have started to get their act together.

The main thing that's stopping me from taking the Telecom Explorer plan is the $199 cancellation fee. I don't need a modem so was hoping that they'd reduce this fee but it wasn't happening when I spoke to the contact centre.

Orcon is the only ISP that I know of that doesn't have a minimum contract term with a early disconnection fee.

Currently have home line/calling and mobiles with Telecom so ideally only want to move broadband.

Hardly any ISP's offer this, they all want phone + net.

I know a number of people who have switched, or are looking to switch away from WxC because of WxC's policy of only providing ADSL2/2+ on Fusion.

Once the local cabinet is done in my suburb (Jan 2011) I will move away if WxC hasn't changed their policy on ADSL2/2+

Fusion sounds not bad to me. I guess the only extra hardware that most people will need is a phone adapter. My concern is if the speed is really much faster?

Only faster during the day, but in my experience still only 6Mbps (to XNet speed test, not off network) even though I sync at 10Mbps. It does not bother me as I don't watch videos, but most people complain about video streaming so it depends what you want to do.

Switching to Fusion is easy and with my specific usage cheaper than having a POTS phone, but expect to add things like a UPS and be competent in diagnosing network setup issues. Also probably harder to switch back if you decide to change to another provider (unless you change to another nDSL provider and keep the XNet VFX service).
