If you were going to buy(cost no object) a 3G handset now or very soon what would you buy?

I'd wait 6mo at least before buying one - in fact - buy one maybe just after xmas when they drop the prices on the new ones. There is 5 available now, with plans for 15 by xmas, so best waiting for something decent...

But apart from price reduction, are there any more features that are likely to come out. I mean even the first of the devices will have:
- Video calling
- Full speed packet data
- decent quality cameras
- decent quality screens.

Only feature I'd like to know about is can handsets operate on a packet data session (e.g. internet, VPN etc) and receive/make a voice call, video call etc. simultaneously, not the 'suspend' like with GPRS?

Yes i believe thay can. Was talking to a guy on the phone while he surfed the net using the phone as a modem(with a lap top). I believe he had a SE V800.

I would very likely wait for the HTC Universal to be released here, which will be sometime soon, very soon.

I've seen one of these in black, with O2 branding. Great stuff. We may get an i-mate version instea, since Vodafone VPA is a brand only used by Vodafone Germany (but that may change).

I can't commit until I've had a play, I used to despise clamshell designs but I've grown to them, especially on devices with high quality screens etc its beneficial to prolong their life.
Expandable memory is a must for me, which type remains to be seen but the bigger the limit the better.
I suppose connectivity is important, if I have a 3g handset i want to be able to connect to my laptop via bt or a cable and make the most of it, just video calling and fast wap browsing doesnt appeal too much towards me.
All the launch handsets have at least a megapixel camera, some have better connectivity, all have video calling and what not.
I'd like to play with a Sharp 902 and a V800 because off hand those would be my picks at this point in time.

Very happy with my V800i flashed to Z800 frimware. I have used all the 3G handsets and the Samsung is very nice as well. I can use 3G data while making a voice call no issue speed does not change.

I'm personally going to hold off till the smartphones start coming out, along with all the support, apps and other goodness.

After using one on a regular basis, you don't want to go back.

hehe i've outgrown my imate SP2 and found it's great! my previous phone before SP2 was nokia 3650, was good but bad PIM sync with outlook. then there's quite a few limitation with SP2 that I wish i could do but only available on Pocket PC. so i'm going for HTC universal Pocket PC with WM5.0...

though I wish there's OQO... and then I can contiue using my SP2 or SP4 (3G compatible?) with OQO. hehe

Please use this thread to discuss Skype x Vodafone 3G... This way we can have multiple different conversations, without OT.
