Damit, just got a brand NEW Moto E398 and flashed it, and it just got stolen!! God, im sooo frigin pissed off... hmmm, is there anyway I can get my fone back? I have got the ESN + IMEI number too (since i just got it)... ARRGH!!! - soo angry :@:@

Help will be appreciated.. thanks!

Vodafone will block IMEI numbers. If you give them a ring you're not necessarily going to get your phone back but at least whoever stole it will find the phone unusable.

so even tho they stick in a SIM card of their own, it will still be completely unusable?

Yes, it will never register on the vodafone NZ network regardless of what simcard is in it.. This blocking won't work overseas so if they take it out of the country, can indeed use it.

depending on the theft, is it possible for the police to make contact with vodafone and attempt to recover the phone via it registering itself on the network or with the owners sim card.
Eg: A steals the handset and puts in his simcard, VF encourages registration through 'bundled airtime' activated upon registration or if you have a postpay you have a bill and credit cards etc. The associated information should like to a registered name/address

I lost a GSM mobile phone a few years ago in Auckland. When I got in Wellington I called Vodafone and told them about this.

A couple of days later they called me to say they had found the mobile phone. The person who found the phone had put his own SIM card (on account!) on the device. Of course being an account it was possible for Vodafone to know name, address, contact number.

Vodafone detected the IMEI in use, called the person who denied it. Then Vodafone promised to send the police to recover the phone, since the person knew it could just be returned to any Vodafone store, so there was really no excuse for that.

Two days later I got my phone back via CourierPost.

I also lost my phone a couple of years ago and it was handed into Wgtn Police. I got a phone call the next day from Vodafone saying my phone had been handed in and could be collected from the Police station. When I went down there I was surprised to hear that the Police used to simply contact Vodafone with the IMEI or SIM number and Vodafone would attempt to make contact with the person and they actually managed to return a large number of 021 phones to the owner. Telecom on the other hand were apparently not remotely interested in doing anything similair and as a result they had large quantities of Telecom phones there.

I know lots of Hastings Police Officers, and they regularly call me to return handsets to their owners...

If it were me, I would call the police, the carrier and the local dealers....
