I'm disappointed that TelstraClear is not giving it's customers the option to pay a one off joining fee like Sky does. Long term TC's pricing will be an expensive deal.
Example: First year setup fee $99 plus $15 monthly comes to $279. The following year, costing is $180 making a total of $459. After the third year the cost will have come to a total of $639, $40 more than the one setup fee of $599 that Sky charges. You will then have the continuing yearly charge of $180 payable for ever. I personally would prefer to pay a one off fee rather than a yearly fee that could go on for ever.

This article says:

The PVR will cost $499, or $15 a month, plus installation – not including pay-TV subscriptions.

So it seems like it can be purchased outright.

The (Stuff article) might say that but the official letter sent by the Head of Consumer Markets TelstraClear states "Right now, we're finalising pricing - and the good news is that you can expect installation to be a one-off $99 and from then on it's approximately $15 a month" no mention of a one-off payment of $499.

Sure, but I'm sure Stuff didn't completely make it up.

Maybe, but it would be nice if TelstraClear made this clearer. If the letter is correct it would be cheaper in the long run to get MySky HD installed instead of the new TelstraClear HomeMedia PVR.
