I'm in Hawkes Bay and the 3G coverage is very limited. Before the network was set up my phone worked fine. Now since 3G has commenced I have trouble sending and recieving texts and phonecalls. I can use 3G but sometimes it is hard to connect, but when it connects its all good. I can use vodafone live too. Periodically the phone will suddenly work, If I restart it it fixes the problem for a brief period. Is it because the network is changing from 2g to 3g all the time or do I need to update the latest firmware. I've been searching the net and the current firmware on my phone is R1G007 and I think that I am suppose to have R1K010. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

hi you can use SEUS. go to sony ericsson website and you can update firmware on that site. you will need service cable/data cable to do it though. Its called T28 service cable. The other one is the sony ericsson DSS-25 sync station. but check wheather the DSS-25 supports your Z1010 first.
or you could use a server to do the update but this will cost you.

@pugz18595: You can use a DSS-25 station with some of the flashing tools I think (Davinci server)

Be sure you understand exactly what you're doing before you attempt to do-it-yourself flash your phone. You'll have to buy a credit to use Davinci otherwise you'll end up with a phone that doesn't work.

There's plenty of guides out there, I recommend esato.com's forums. You'll have to wade through (a HEAP of) crap, but spend some time. It really pays to take the time to understand what you're doing, then you don't end up with a dead phone.

I got my T28 cable from overseas, there's quite a few places that sell them these days. They're more reliable than a DSS-25 station but a lot slower.

I've done a bit more research and there's no later FW for your phone.
While R1K does exists it's only for certain language packs.

It seems that SE gave up on this phone soon after it was released, I haven't seen a single FW update for it, the R1K has been around for a long time.

I can flash your phone for you if you like, but I think the only reason for the slightly high FW revision is for a different language pack - I doubt it will make any difference.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

oh okay. Thinking about it my partner has the R1K010 firmware in her z1010 as I just checked her phone out and often the network kind of 'locks' like mine and sometimes you get a text later on in the day. Is that because it changes from 2g to 3g. The 3g signal is weak around Hastings. Thanks helps for your help muppert I really appreciate it. In Aussie we were on 3g (called 3 in Aussie) and it worked fine and now that its set up in NZ I think vodafone need to do more work? I dont know

I don't actually own a 3G handset so I can't answer your questions I'm sorry :)

It sounds to me like you'd be better off to just to force the phone to stay in 2G mode only, switch it to 3G mode on those impossibly rare occasions you'd actually need to make a video call (me, cynical? Never!)

I'm not familar with the Z1010 at all but usually it's in the Connections->Networks or something similar to that. GSM instead of GMS/UTMS etc.

Keep in mine the Z1010 was SE's first UMTS phone (as far as I know, anyone please correct me if wrong) and it seems to have been forgotten in the FW updates department. You're probably closer that the VF network down there isn't fully mature yet.

Anyway I'm just guessing, I don't know enough about the Z1010 or how it/the network handles low 3G coverage situations.

pugz18595: can get the cable from ebay. its around USD$10. shipping is around $12. I got my DSS-25 for around GBP$28 including shipping which is not too bad cuz Sony NZ is selling it for $129. Dont get the T28 cable from trademe as i have bought one from this guy called getone and he ripped me off by sending the wrong cable and refuse to refund my money. he sent me a T28 phone cable.

I've dealt with GetOne before and haven't had a problem with him.
The auction in question does state it's a data cable, not a service cable!

Anyway, look here, you can convert it from a data into a service cable easily:

I have asked him specifically to send me a service cable and he said sure and i wanted serial and he sent me USB. Also the cable doesnt even support my phone as it came with a CD with a file containing which phone is supported and mine is not on it.
