Hi All,

Sorry I am new to this and have read threads on which routers to buy which will work on TCL so you can have wireless Internet. I have just moved into a new flat which already had TCL but we have 3 laptops there and my PC, problem being as they are situated throughout the house we need it to be wireless. I purchased only about a month ago a Linksys WAG16ON modem/router and was wondering if I can use this as some sort of bridge so that I can plug the TCL cable into it and everyone would be able to use the wireless.
Any help would be great as I don't really want to buy another router after only just purchasing this one.

Hi, the WAG160 is a ADSL modem/router, and as such you cannot access the WAN port except via an ADSL connection. Therefore its of no use to you. You could use it as a WiFi AP, however as you cannot access the WAN port you cannot access the NAT router that will enable more than one PC to get on the net at once.

You will have little option than to purchase a suitable router. A basic wired router can be purchased for under $60, or a wireless router for around $80.

Thanks for the comments it just confirms my suspicions that it wouldn't work, are there any wireless routers that you would recommend?

Hi, I have had good success with the Dlink DIR-300 and latter models. Lots of folk around here make great claims about the WRT54GL running OpenWRT or Tomato, but to be honest since TCL fixed their network up a couple of years back the off the self units dont seem to suffer as they did.

As with most domestic grade routers if you load them up with too many torrent connections they crumble, but thats to be expected, just keep that in mind and either dont torrent or manage the number of connections they open.
