Ok, so I'm finally sick of trying to prod Telecom into action for over 3 months now over my annoyingly slow ADSL upload speeds (~400k and I'm 200m from the cabinet!) and then it hits me... This is a new subdivision... I wonder... One quick phonecall later... (You're all going to hate me...)
MY HOUSE HAS FIBRE!!!
30/6mbit connection here I come baby!!! WOOOHOOO!!! HOW DID I NOT THINK OF THIS BEFORE!!?? XNet SO need to do a flyer drop around here!!! (No... no that's a bad idea, that would RUIN my 1:33 contention ratio... I NEED all 1000mbit of backhaul for myself... I don't CARE that I only have a 30mbit connection, it's MINE!! All of it!! MIIIINE!!... myyyy preciouuuuuus....) ....Ahem.
After making this exciting discovery, I briefly considered staying with ADSL (I know, I know...) but I feel I have a duty... nay.. an OBLIGATION! to all of my fellow geeks who would kill to be living in my street, to get fibre installed and bask in the wonderous glory that is; a mainline to the Internet. An obligation to obtain a connection unfettered by petty copper interconnects and analogue to digital conversions, a connection with latency so low that pinging geekzone is like pinging your HTPC downstairs, a connection so fast!, that even a local Akamai server will struggle to swamp it! Yes, I have decided to make the $199 install fee and $30 per month sacrifice... for you, my fellow geeks. And while you may punish me with harsh words and savage abuse, I will stand fast; steady in the knowledge that if our roles were reversed, you would do the same for me, and suffer what I will suffer, for the sake of all geekkind!
But before I leap feet first into the world of zero lag, I'm wondering if anyone else out there has XNet fibre!? I cannot, in my wildest dreams, imagine that the experience of FTTH could POSSIBLY be worse in any way, shape or form, than ADSL (or anything else for that matter), but you know, you have to do your research on this kind of thing. I'm interested in how the install went and what your experiences have been like with your connection. (PM me if you're worried about personal reprisals for revealing your identities in public...)
In closing, I'd like to quote one of the most insightful and thought provoking men of our time... Barney Gumble:
"Just hook it to my veins!!!"
