I just changed my modem to Thomson ST536V6 and I was hoping I would be enjoying the ADSL2+ speed.

However I just found out that this ADSL2+ modem is actually running on ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+.

I have reset the modem but it still on ADSL2 Only..

any idea?

From the figures posted above, in particular Downstream Line Attenuation of 43.5dB, it looks as though you are too far from the exchange to get the benefit of ADSL2 or ADSL2+. In fact, you are not even syncing at full ADSL1 speed.

Downstream Line Attenuation of 43.5dB implies that you are around 3.1km from the exchange, which is much too far to get the benefit of ADSL2/2+.

Sorry to tell you what you don't want to hear...

Apart from distance, your line appears to be otherwise OK. S/N margin of 12dB means the following:

11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no synchronisation problems

So, apart from slower speed, you should have a reliable link, which is the most important thing really.

so that is why I am still on adsl2 not adsl2+?

I thought I would be still on ADSL2+ just same speed as ADSL

You're getting ADSL1 speeds, not ADSL2 or ADSL2+.

yes..my adsl is always stable..even with the d-link 302G before and now with thomson st536v6.
(my friend give me st536v6 as a gift!!!

．．so no cost for that!!!)

I have been told before that even I upgraded my modem, the speed wont increase much as my home is too far away from the exchange.

but I am still hoping I am still on the ADSL2+ dsl type. now I am just worried about if I have configured my modem correctly.

so....

if telecom put a new cabinet around my house in 2011, my modem will regconise it automatically and operating on ADSL2+ ?

just dont know why the modem automatically regonise it as ADSL2

not ADSL1 or ADSL2+

Yes, you won't have to do anything. Your modem will re-sync. at the increased speed once the cabinet has been installed.

As you have noticed, your modem is already operating in ADSL2 mode. But your sync. speed is only equivalent to about 60% of the maximum ADSL1 speed because of the distance.

As soon as the distance is reduced (with installation of a roadside cabinet), your modem will automatically switch to ADSL2+ mode and take advantage of the increased speed available.

Here's a slightly modified version of a graph from an Australian ISP Internode that explains the relationship between "expected" sync speed and line attenuation.

Basically more distance = higher line attenuation
Worse wiring = higher line attenuation

Higher line attenuation = lower sync speed
