Just purchased an i-Mate SP5 phone. Came preloaded with all the Vodafone settings and was good-to-go straight out of the box.

Was playing around (as you do) and decided to perform a factory default reset - erased all the config as expected, including the Vodafone-specific settings. No problem, I thought, I'll go the i-Mate website and download and install the Vodafone NZ Cab file to restore the settings. The install of the CAB file does not work - message comes up on the phone saying that the install of the CAB file was unsuccessful. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Talked to Vodafone, and they can't supply the CAB file, and can't support the phone. They directed me to the i-Mate website for support, so no luck here. I guess I can manually configure the settings, but I'd rather do it through the CAB

As a side note, a hard reset of the i-Mate JasJar does not erase the Vodafone-specific settings. When you reset the JasJar, the Vodafone CAB file which is located somewhere in the phone's filesystem is automatically run when the phone starts up.

mmm did you install the cab from ActiveSync or copy cab and install?

with my SP2, i copy the CAB file and put in the SD card and install from it from within SP's file manager. give it a try again. Perhaps try downloading the CAB file again too..

CAB was copied and then run from SP5's File Manager
I have also tried downloading again (to no avail)
SP5 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 so I am assuming that the SP5 CAB may be different from an SP2 CAB, but method of install appears the same.

If you had a SP2 before then you should create a new login with the SP5's IMEI number - the downloads available are different depending on model.

Exact error message on phone is

"Installation of CDL_Vodafone_NZ_SP_V1.1.CAB was unsuccessful"

you can add new device to your current login/username anyway, just simply register new device.

Found out that the XML script within the CAB file was bad.
Tested other CABs for the SP5 (eg. Vodafone UK CAB) and they installed the settings - so that at least tests that the CAB install does work.

Left a message on the i-Mate forum requesting them to fix the VF NZ CAB file, but don't hold your breath. Vodafone NZ was equally unhelpful, and simply redirected me to i-Mate. There policy is that they do not provide support for phones.

In the end, I resorted to manually setting up the phone. Here is the required config for the SP5 if anyone ever needs it:

VoiceMail Number (Start, Settings, Phone, Call Options, Voice Mail Number)
+6421700700

Text Message Service Centre (Start, Settings, Phone, Call Options, Text Messages service center)
+6421600600

GPRS (Start, Settings, Connections, GPRS)
You need to Add two configurations
1) VFNZ GW
Connects to: Secure WAP Network
Access Point: live.vodafone.com
Username: "blank"
Password: "blank"
Primary DNS: "blank"
Secondary DNS: "blank"
IP Address: "blank"
2) VFNZ Internet
Connects to: The Internet
Access Point: www.vodafone.net.nz
Username: "blank"
Password: "blank"
Primary DNS: "blank"
Secondary DNS: "blank"
IP Address: "blank"


MMS Setup (Start, Messaging, MMS, Menu, Options, Account Options, MMS, Menu, MMSC Settings)
Name: Vodafone NZ MMSC
MMSC URL: http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
WAP Gateway: 172.30.38.3
Port: 9201
Connect via: Secure WAP Network

by the way, i didn't know SP5 is released in NZ?

are you able to get on to Vodafone Live? My SP2 has Vodafone Live now finally, but it was installed with the CAB. if you want Vodafone Live! let me know. I'll post the settings up (as far as i can understand)

I am using a SP5 since last week... You can find these around somewhere. No, Vodafone live! is not supported, but should work.

I have an iMate SP5 which seems to be locking up on startup (locks up on a screen with 'HTC Innovation' logo and 'StartupSplash' in the menu bar.

I've tried holding down the camera button on powerup but I just get a screen with three colours where I can't do anything. I've tried the instructions located at http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php?option=articles&task=viewarticle&artid=36&Itemid=3 but they don't seem to work at all.


If I wait about 10 minutes (literally) it actually boots into Windows Mobile but the green 'start call' / red 'end call' keys don't work.

Could anyone assist me in performing a hard reset?
