When are we likely to see new, larger broadband caps introduced?

It seems with most thing in the IT world, they progress over time, however this doesn't seem true with NZ broadband caps.

On our 256k ADSL, we had no cap, slowly ihug/Vodafone started to create restrictions. Firstly it was a cap, but no uploaded data was counted, then their was off and on peak caps, now all data is counted towards the cap.

When will the caps increase in size?

ISPs have been increasing their caps.

I also think that you can't get much bigger than unlimited - which is available on the Big Time plan.

aside from that, ISPs launch new plans probably every 18months-2 years, and tend to give bigger caps at the time.

Wasn't long ago that the largst cap on Telecom was a 50GB plan for, IIRC, $130 with overage charged at $20/GB. now you cvan get a 60GB plan for only $110, and the overage is much cheaper ($3/GB). As mentioned you also have Big Time, which has unlimited data

Other ISPs have similar stories.

You probably wont see any major moves to expand/remove caps until you get a second provider of fibre out of NZ.

SCross will be happy to keep their rates at a point to make the economics of entry for a new cable provider only marginally profitable.
