Seems like an odd decision to close the Vodafone Maps site.  They appear to have closed and replaced with ajax overlay address checker that is a few clicks deep into the site under: fixed line internet plan details.

(Old) Vodafone Maps site:
http://www.vodafonemaps.co.nz/

So here's what I think...

1: The maps site was quicker and easier to check if an address was in the Red Zone.
2: The map was more visual and interesting and you could navigate to an area when a specific addresses wasn't found via search.
3: They are throwing away good good google juice
4: There is no link on the (old) maps site to what has replaced it which is quite unhelpful
5: Many FAQ pages on the Vodafone site actually still link to the maps site, which was annoying
6: The check your address button is small, doesn't stand out and is easy to miss
7: I just want to check and address/area at the time, I didn't want to start the "sign up online" wizard because who know how many steps or what info I'll need to enter.

A waste

Backwards in a few ways imo.

It was proving difficult to update fast enough to keep up with telecom cabinetising.

Cheers
