Just received spam email from TelstraClear telling how Ziln is now unmeted - as well as Trade Me, ClearNet Video... Check http://www.unmetered.co.nz for more details.

I personally think they lost the chance when launching Ziln and not making it unmetered straight from the launch.

Great... but seriously who's gonna watch Ziln? Give me tvnzondemand unmetered any day.
Plus, I wouldn't call a few Trademe static pages big traffic. Unless they start Trademe TV :-)
that could be an idea......

If they fix the YouTube problem and make YouTube traffic unmetered on TCL, then that's most welcome!

Trade Me is responsible for the majority of Internet traffic in New Zealand. We are talking about ten million pages a day recently. Any traffic to tha domain is huge.

As for "unmetered" I would like to TelstraClear to bring back the old 10% meter for national traffic. But seeing they are averse to peering I am not sure this is happening ever again.

I would be terrified if I worked for TelstraClear and found out they hope giving free/unmetered access to Ziln would be a YouTube replacement for some...

Can't open Ziln at the moment... too much excitement!

Ziln isin't even loading for me, what is it anyway?

This has already been said but I'm sure unmetered TVNZ on demand would be quite welcome.

There's a big difference between # of pages viewed by the whole country and amount data consumed by an individual. There's no way using TradeMe would ever contribute any significant damage to one's data cap, thus rendering the whole "uncapped TradeMe" thing pointless and an excellent example of seemingly giving something of worth while actually giving (essentially) nothing.

It's an internet TV site with very niche "channels", complete with low bitrate (most of the time - highest I've seen is 768k), low resolution, and small selection of videos.

would be hard to do any damage on trademe when the images are resized small and compressed to hell and thats about all there is on it.

Can see that they can get away with that since trademe dont allow you to link offsite images to listings.

I don't see myself using Ziln much until it gets an XBMC/Boxee plugin. :)

What about the rest of the offer:
- clearnet video: basically worthless. I can't even go fullscreen
- on3network:  I see is a steam server? does it mean you can download games bought on Steam from them? that'd be awesome, but I doubt it. It's probably just a game server (again, very low bitrate). Can you guys confirm?

ON3 merged with ClearnetDeluxe, mostly they are providing local servers for gaming (largely FPS servers), download mirror for some patches etc and a fairly popular forum.

ON3 used to be Gamer Hub who used to be ICONZ Arena. I guess ICONZ lost interest in providing bandwidth/server space to them.

Local servers are great, get 5-16ms on Left 4 Dead 2 servers hosted by TCL/ON3
