Hi everyone

My boyfriend's mobile phone was stolen last night from a club. I was just wondering what other options he has if he does not know his IMEI code for his phone and he got his phone from his older brother who left over seas, so he does not have the originl packaging that the phone came in.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Sometimes the operator might have the IMEI in their database. Contact their help desk.

File a police report.

Report the phone stolen to your mobile provider. (I'm sure they are used to dealing with people who don't know their IMEI)

Claim insurance with either your phone insurance (if you have it) or house and contents insurance.

To get a handset blacklisted proof of purchase and IMEI is required from the customer

They can get the old number back easy prepay or postpay

you really expect the customer to have the IMEI and proof of purchase stored away somewhere? Most people throw out the receipt and box or store it somewhere they will forget, or loose it when they move.

can't you just look it up in traffica and see that they were using that IMEI for the last X days/months

My post was very Clear what happens when someone disputes why the handset is blacklisted?

Vodafone have a copy of police report and proof of purchase simple no dispute

Expect a long delay when blacklisting a phone. I sent a police report, reciept and IMEI details to Vodafone when I lost my smart phone a while back... took them at least a month to blacklist it (and several calls to them to get them to do it).

Your right, my boy friend does not know his IMEI code, but surely there are ways around this???

Cause they are done in batches and feed into the EIR not 1 by 1

The help desk on 777 will not be able to see the IMEI

Your right, my boy friend does not know his IMEI code, but surely there are ways around this???


if he is an on account customer and he bought his handset from vodafone it might be possible.

if he is on account then should at least be able to get the SIM blocked so that no (more) calls go through on his bill.

if he is on prepay, you might be able to get the SIM blocked and number back (if you have the account PIN etc i expect)

if the handset was bought elsewhere, and you have no receipt, then i'd say your chances are low to none of getting it blocked.

Without the receipt and the IMEI, how does Vodafone know you own the phone? Sure - the phone number says you own the SIM....but that may have nothing to do with the phone.

It seems clear that if you want to have control of the device after its stolen you have to keep the receipt and IMEI somewhere. My receipt is in my GMail email as I ordered online. My IMEI is in another email I sent to myself. I threw all other stuff away....as you say. But we haven't needed paper records for a few decades now. CATCH UP! :-)

I almost always keep my packaging, and (at the bare minimum) my receipts. Just in case something like this happens.
