If you want to use data/email on a Blackberry you have to be on a Blackberry plan, the cheapest is $40 per month on top of your existing plan.

All data used while roaming is charged at $30 per MB for Blackberry usage.

If you just want basic email on your phone a Blackberry is not the most cost effective solution since it involves going via BIS which adds to the cost.

BB roaming has been reduced to $10/MB now in the recent announcement.

If you want a cheaper BB service, i definitely recommend that you go onto the Smart Plans. If you go on the Smart $40, you just have to pay an additional $10 extra per month to get the BIS service. There are some exciting stuff planned in this space so i would definitely recommend you join this plan if you are more of a data centric user.

Wow, I didn't know that. That makes the Smart plans really attractive for Blackberry users. Do you know if the 250MB allowance is added to the BIS 100MB included?

Blackberry data usage for the BIS on the Smart plans will come off the same data bundle as standard data sessions. This behaviour is specific to the Smart plans. As there is the current 3GB promo on the Smart plans as well, you will to clock a lot of blackberry usage to exhaust that bundle size. :)
