Quick question regarding connecting a Linksys PAP2T adapter to an ethernet port on a Linksys AG310 router/gateway. The AG310 is provisioned for use with VFX. I'm intending to use the PAP2T to make local calls in Australia through FaktorTel using a cordless analog phone. Is this setup possible, or will it create problems?

I welcome anyone giving a better solution than this. Currently I use a SIP softphone on my iPhone to make calls through FaktorTel with my Wi-Fi network at home, but I was looking for a more family-friendly solution (no-one touches my iPhone!!).

Are you already using both voice ports in the WAG310? If not there is no need to buy any additional hardware, just configure the 2nd voice port for Faktortel and create an appropiate dialplan to support this.

I think by default access both voice ports are locked down in the default configuration so you may need to ask WxC nicely to create a configuration for you that allows you access to the 2nd voice line settings.

My parents-in-law have a WAG310 with the 2nd line unlocked - we have it configured with VFX and Mynetfone.

Thanks Steve. Only using one voice port. It's an AG310, not the wireless WAG310 version. The ports are called "line" and "phone". One is for my VFX phone system whereas the other port could be used to make analog calls via a phone line. However I don't have a phone line, just VFX Fusion.

Ahh sorry I misread the model. The WAG310 has two FXS ports for analogue phones and the AG310 only has the one.

Running another ATA behind this will work fine. You may possibly run into a small issue with both trying to use port 5060 but both services can operate on other ports so there are a few simple changes that would fix things if they didn't work straight out of the box.

As Steve says, should be fine; but you can try port 5061 for the second VoIP line if you run into issues. Also, make sure AGL is disabled on the AG310 (if that option is there).

David, the phone line port on the AG310 is a vallover port, so if for some reason VFX does not work then the phone port will revert to a normal analogue POTS line (if you have one plugged in, which you don't have).

It is my understanding you can also dial a code on the phone to select between using VFX or using the POTS line. Now this is only theory, I have not tried it myself, but in theory it should work well if you connect the phone port of a second VoIP adapter to the line port of the AG310 so you have one phone for 2 VoIP lines.

Using the AG310 as network router for the second VoIP adapter should not be a problem, because data will be directed to a second MAC address. I'm not clear about devices trying to use the same port number, but I reckon WxC can help you with that.

If it does not work for you, I know there are many people including myself who are keen to get their hands on your AG310 and would swap/trade with you.

Niel, I don't see a code for selecting between VoIP and POTS in the AG310 user manual. There is a list of codes, but this option is not present in the list.

[Edit: the POTS line is active only in the event of a power failure of the gateway, according to the manual]

I checked PB Technologies for availability of the AG310 and found them on back order for $1151.97 including GST. I bought mine for about $100 from the same company in 2008. I presume they have a nugget of gold buried inside of them, and they've only just figured this out.

I paid about the same for an AG310 from PB Technologies also 2 years ago. For a long time it's been not available. Can't remember the details, but something in the line of it was designed for a specific customer and the deal fell through or customer went bust or something. It is a great unit, but had to be dumped somewhere with a small limited population that is unlikely to insist on buying the same unit 10 years down the line... That price tag is probably to get the factory to do a small run specifically for PB Technologies (or any other distributor). That's just my understanding of what happened, but it might be completely wrong. Perhaps Maverick will jump in and clarify.

Oh, thanks for clearing up regarding the POTS line. I was not aware of that as I have no need for it, but makes commercial sense. So there is a relay that just switches the lines according to the power state.
