Hi guys

I've had XNet fusion for a while here now in Mt Eden and am a little underwhelmed with the speeds I've been seeing...
It seems to be syncing really slow, no idea why. I thought being down the road from a cabinet would mean fast internet!

Here's what the modem is saying (WAG310g)

Modulation Type:
ADSL_2plus (configured as MultiMode)
Status:Up
Provider:
Downstream Rate:3197 Kbps
Upstream Rate:459 Kbps
Downstream Noise Margin:11.8 dB
Upstream Noise Margin:11.9 dB
Downstream Attenuation:38.0 dB
Upstream Attenuation:39.3 dB
Downstream Power:12.4 dBmV
Upstream Power:18.2 dBmV

Any insight into why the down/upstream rates might be so low?
Cheers

Slow sync can only be affect by something between you and the exchange.  Start with phone wires and sockets, try to swap modem with a friend, get XNet to test the line/exchange.

You can never have enough Volvos!

I would have expected much higher sync speeds for those attenuation numbers.

Do you have a monitored alarm?
How many phone jacks in the house?
Is every land line device (fax, phone, skytv) using an adsl filter?

Do isolation test, ie: unplug every other phone line device apart from the adsl modem, then reboot the modem and see what sync speed you get.

There is an alarm at our place, but it has never been used. I have no idea whether it could potentially be monitored though. I'm guessing they aren't easy to "unplug".

As far as phone jacks, the house if FULL of them. Only two are active at the moment, sync speeds the same on both. Chorus came out to get it all up and running, he had to do a few trips between the house and the cabinet to work out which line was which.

Don't have any other devices plugged in. Phone is just plugged into the modem.

Hi, just because the alarm is not monitored or active does not mean its not effecting DSL performance, if the line touchs down on it and its not DSL friendly then it can be an issue.

Lots of phone circuits, even if they have nothing connected to them will potentially cause lots of line stubs, which stuffs DSL performance especially DSL2+.

Have you plugged your address into the telecom map site to see if you are on an exchange or cabinet.

Cyril
