Does Vodafone block port 25 ?  Im trying to set up sbs server 2008 and cant access the SMTP externally, all other ports work fine and port 25 is definately forwarded in router, I have double checked and triple checked router settings.  Port 25 still a no go.

I believe only on some plans.  At home I'm on BigTime and it's blocked, but on our work ADSL we can use port 25 with no worries.

Errrm I would agree with the original poster that something has changed recently.

Im with Xtra for broadband but have a legacy ihug account with vodafone. About a week or so ago my 2 ihug accounts stopped sending mail. No matter how I configured Outlook it wouldnt send.

In the end I had to use Xtras smtp server, which I hate doing as my emails sometimes get bocked/junked as the email and sending domains dont match.

So, johnr, if vodafone doesnt block port 25, has something changed in terms of ihug in the past week or so?

To clarify, do you mean that you're trying to access the Ihug SMTP server from your Xtra connection? In that case, you're running into Xtra's port 25 block; nothing to do with Ihug/Vodafone.

I have two ihug email accounts set up in Outlook.

Both used pop3.ihug.co.nz and smtp.ihug.co.nz - I used this configuration for around a year (since I swicthed from Xnet).

Then about a week ago Outlook stopped sending mail, no problem recieving email but would not send anything.

I had to change both accounts to use smtp.xtra.co.nz

Thanks guys.
That explains why my xtra email stopped sending all of a sudden.  I was using send.xtra.co.nz, and had been for years, which defaulted to port 25.  When it stopped working the nice man in the Phillipines got me to change the smtp server address to smtp.xtra.co.nz.  Nice of Telecom to warn its customers that they were making a configuration change.
Is there a downside to using smtp rather than send?

No in short, they are both SMTP servers based at a different URL

Have advised the cust im setting up sbs for to change to Orcon, for a start they give out a free static ip on every connection, they also provide much better download speeds, and they certainly dont block port 25, whether or not vodafone really do block 25 I dont know, but I can say the sbs server was setup first on my orcon connection and was working fine, we then took the server to customers place and plugged in, changed dns A, MX records on domain to custs ip, forwarded ports in router and port 25 was a no go, the rest worked.  I travel around a lot fixing computers onsite.  I must also mention when it comes to downloading updates and other things onto peoples computers, I have noticed most Vodafone, Xtra and Slingshot connections seem to be slow compared wtih Orcon, another reason to switch to orcon.
