Hey guys,
As per the title, will the HTC Desire work on Vodafone and/or 2Degrees?
I have my eye on it from Mobicity, heres a link
http://www.mobicity.com.au/htc-desire.html

The specs on the page show that it runs on GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, 3G 900, 3G 2100.
I checked the 2Degrees site which says they run on a 900Mhz GSM and will be deploying a 2100Mhz 3G network soon.
I am assuming Vodafone NZ is the same.

I just want to confirm it will work on these two before i pull the credit card out.

Cheers

My orientation is showing: I saw the title and read it as "...will it work on vodka?" and I thought WTF.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I bought a HTC Desire from clove.co.uk and it is working brilliantly, love it.

I found on these forums (not sure where) the settings to enable the sms and mms functionality, I have not used mms but everything else works perfectly.

I have found it to be a great phone and seems to pick up weak signals better than my old N95.

Cheers
Richard

There are discussions (including a 36-page thread) discussing this very model on VFNZ, 2degrees, and XT. Check out the Android forum on this site.

Yep, that will work just fine on vodafone and 2ds, 2d's is rolling out 2100mhz 3G at the moment. (It's not live yet)

I've had my Desire a week now, on vodafone. Works fine. :)

OH had her HTC Desire for a couple of weeks now & is just fine on VF. Must confess to being very un-geek-like about it (it's just a phone! )...until it arrived. I'm impressed, and might just get one for myself. An aptly named piece of kit indeed.

Also bought from Clove in UK - very impressed with their service, delays in delivery (through no fault of theirs) notwithstanding. And if you're lucky enough not to get stung by GST on the way in, should be a good $100 less expensive too !

And the 30+ page thread referred to above has some very useful info in it.

Get that credit card working - if you haven't already ...

Thanks for the replies guys,
I have heard some good things about both Mobicity and Clove, but im probably more inclined to get it from Mobicity as its only in Aus so if anything should happen to it then it wont take too long for repair etc. (Hopefully it wont come to that).

Soleil24, lol no havnt got the credit card working just yet as i dont actually NEED it but i do WANT it :D

Did any of you puchase any higher levels of warranty or just stuck with the standard?

Eracode, works on beer too, but the text messaging gets a little incoherent and embarrasing in the morning. See here for proof http://mydrunktexts.com/

Looks like Clove is out of Desires again. Is it popular or something? Smile

And apologies for the messy link to the vodka pic. I'll be stripped of any geek status at this rate: no excitement over a cellphone (!) and can't even do a link to Picassa.

They were out of desires before they even started selling the last batch :)

They had presold the entire last batch they got, I got mine just over a week ago and i'd ordered it a month before that!

Hey guys another question for those of you who bought it from Mobicity..
Did yours come with a USB cable for connecting to PC and software CD?
I only ask because on the 'Whats in the box' description, it doesnt mention these.
I'd call Mobicity but they're closed.

Cheers

Correction: Forget the USB cable, does it come with software CD?

Mine, oops I mean my girlfriend's, came with USB cable, but no software required, so no software CD. Standard pack should be the same wherever you get it from.

Suggest you probably have a browse across the Android forum posts for + info on this device

I don't think it comes with software CD - I read somewhere HTC Sync is actually in the SD card in the device. If you connect via USB in Disk Drive mode you can probably access the install from there? Then again, sounds like you didn't get a USB cable either! Weird...
