Well call me nasty and ungrateful but why even announce this when it doesn't contain anything useful? Why couldn't they announce this together with details of pricing? Now we have to wait for the "coming weeks" to learn anything of substance.

Maybe this is what the Thursday tweet debacle was about. 'Stand by, stand by, we're announcing that we'll be announcing iPad plans in the coming weeks.'

I find it pointless and a bit odd to have an announcement about an announcement

why would they announce special ipad plans? Why not just make any of the existing data plans for mobile broadband available on the iPad. seems bizarre.

I don't really see the point of having data plans for this specific device. It makes sense to a certain degree for the iPhone as they can put together a package of calling time, text messages and data to suit that particular device but for the iPad I would have thought that they would just promote their existing data plans.

Personally I'm tied to a contract on a 1Gb per month plan for the next six months so I'm hoping to get a micro SIM issued for my existing connection which Johnr has previously indicated should be possible. I'm not too keen to do the SIM cutting thing if I can avoid it.

+1 on yawn factor of the "announcement of an announcement soon"

Wake me when they actually reveal some details.

Does that mean there will also be an update to the accouncement of the accouncement ?  And if there are errors in the pricing pages (it has happened before...) then an accouncement retracting the accouncement  of the accouncement and a new accouncement???

Stupid.

+1 to just release the details, otherwise why bother?

+1 to why not just use existing mobile data plans?  After all how many people are going to use voice plans on an iPad?

I too dont understand the purpose of an "announcement of an announcement", and why should the ipad get pricing different to any other data device (unless of course there are restrictions imposed p2p etc).

I am personally running my iPad with an XT data sim which I got when they were doing the 4GB + 4GB free package and works incredibly well, dont feel bad about streaming tv from my mac at home when I know I have a huge limit.

VFNZ are fabulous at announcing when they'll be making an announcement on an impending announcement for an impending product or service.

They really do a fantastic job of keeping us all in the dark and not letting us know anything.

Good on them. It seems to be working as we're all discussing it, aren't we?

True, nothing quite like building some hype, but as history has shown us it also breeds disappointment when it is nothing special.

Personally i see the data pricing coming down for the iPad compared to the mobile phone data pricing.

By setting a specific iPad deal this allows Vodafone to:

-keep milking their majprity of customers at current (extortionate) pricing.
-get a good PR buzz from then iPads great plans.
-Avoid negative reaction due to any massive bills ran up by unwitting iPad users.

Lets hope the iPad is the herald of new low mobile data pricing from Vodafone.  Cant see it but lets hope.

Ill be getting a 2Degrees prepaid sim and cutting down with the iPad.  Most of my use will be wifi at home and the office so its not a massive deal breaker anyways for me, but I do prefer to have a 3G one.

The force is strong with this one!

Apparently it's "the way apple wants it" according to @vodafoneNZ.
