At my workplace, we're investigating different internet options. I had a meeting with a TelstraClear guy today telling me about their VDSL2 that's available in our street.

Looking at the plans, the 30m download / 7m upload would seem appealing to our business, if actual speeds attained were close to that figure (yes I understand there is TCP overhead, etc.) We have 3 medium sized sites (~40 ppl over the 3 sites) connecting in to us to use our database application - achieved by the remote sites having their own internet connection and router to router VPN tunnels in place.

My question to you all is: is VDSL2 good? Details of latency, packet loss, actual speeds, etc would be really appreciated.

Feedback given here will sway my decision of pushing this to management or forgetting about it.

Thanks heaps.

if you're serving up an application then its likely going to be better than adsl/adsl2+ which are a lot more limited in upload. where is your business located? there might also be fibre or wireless options, and there are also SDSL offerings (e.g 1mbps or 2mbps both ways).

Located in Te Rapa, Hamilton. Currently running a wireless solution from a local Hamilton company - hasn't been the most reliable in recent times.

Unfortunately Velocity can't offer fibre to the area.
