My you choose contract with vodafone has ended and am looking at all the options and want data on my plan.

With vodafone: $40 per month gets you 250mb after september 1, 300 txts and 30 minutes. Plus you're locked into a contract for 24 months

Equivalent plan with 2degrees: $20 for 512mb, $10 for 100txts, $12.20 (0.44c*30) 30minutes = $42.20 for double the data, 3.3 times the texts and same minutes, plus this is prepay.

???? I'm confused. The only advantage I can see is that there is a much greater 3G coverage with vodafone. Why would anyone choose the vodafone plan after the 3gb promo ends?

Am I missing something?

You said only 100 texts.

People like plans because they feel a sense of guarantee and they can see a minutes figure, or that they will get a better deal. Its not true anymore aye??!

yes they do, and when was that vodafone plan released? When was the 2 degrees data offering released?

Some people need bills, so prepay is a no go, some people dont like dicking around with topups, so again prepay is no use to them.

But those are a minority, and once VF start to not get any signups on it they may redo their plans. But remember that companies are often stupid when it comes to buying things so will buy the vodafone option regardless, and in that case vodafone would be stupid to eliminate it.

People do not have a great comparison site yet, Doesn't NZ Communications do this?

I think someone should get on the commission train and create a site that compares plans online.

On net stuff like best mates and Vodafone family are still big draw cards for some people. My wife loves Vodafone family!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

You also get a handset discount on the vodafone 24 month plan

A few possible reasons (some already mentioned)

1) If someone has a lot of friends on vodafone and uses a lot of SMS then switching to 2D could make it expensive for friends to contact that person unless they also switch

2) you get a handset subisdy with vodafone

3) decent 3G coverage

4) on-net boltons like family and best mates can provide better value for some people, and are not available on 2Degrees.

I know of a website currently in development that will do this and many more company comparisons in various industries. Cannot say any more... I signed something saying so.

Well I just signed up on the Smart60.

I wont tell you what Ive ended up paying for my Nexus One but there was plenty put on top of the $500 subsidy and as Im really only interested in data the 3Gb promo was enough to convince me.

How long will it last for ? I dont know how long is a piece of string ? But its been a considerable amount of time already so who is to say it will end in September ?

Now Ive signed up you can be assured it will be ending in a couple of weeks though ;)

If you are happy with your existing phone and only want to check emails and check facebook once in a while then I can see your arguement. But I wanted to move up from a k800i to a smartphone and to be able to download multiple podcasts to it from whereever I am, stream music to it etc, watch video anywhere etc.

Ive had it less than a week and have already done 300Mb without many of the podcasts I listen too each week.

Where did you get it from? I have one already, but a colleague wants one and would like to talk to a store that will do a deal!!

Perhaps your question should have been....

'Why would anyone choose the 24month smart plan given my situation ?'

Still 3Gb is a damn site more than 250Mb so perhaps it would be better to ask the question when its clear what VF intend to do on 1 September.

I'm very interested to see what happens to the deal on September 1st. Its a huge factor in my decision to buy an iphone

I went with smart 40 because 2d data is not available in Nelson. I may rethink if/when the 3gb promo ends.
