Customers on 4 Mbps/2 Mbps cleary will benefit the most. We'll have to wait and see what they will offer to 10 Mbps/2 Mbps & 25 Mbps/2 Mbps users.

Download speed aside, let's hope they have addressed the issue of international bandwidths.

Oh, cool, so if this is anything like when Christchurch got the 25Mbit plan, Wellington will get it in only a few years.

On a related note, TelstraClear's cable speeds aren't following Nielsen's Law (the "Moore's Law" of internet bandwidth), which states an average of 50% increase in bandwidth every year. Using 2004 as a base-band @ 10Mbps, in 2010 we should be at ~114Mbps which is certainly possible with DOCSIS3. Even using a much more conservative "doubling every 2 years", we get 80Mbps, which is very easily achieved with DOCSIS3. 15Mbps in late 2010 vs 10Mbps in early 2004 is a growth rate of a whopping 6.5% per year. BTW the 25Mbit plan is not comparable to this at any rate, since it's in a different price range.

All very well, but their international bandwidth is so flakey or oversubscribed that it's a bit pointless. Youtube and others are buffering again often (including today), especially with embedded videos, the continued stalling of random http connections, that infernal proxy.

I would much prefer a larger cap then faster speed. 80GB just doesnt cut it.

Hmmm, read TFA. It reads to me like everyone on cable gets this.

“The upgrade means that with effect from October 2010 all of our InHome broadband plans will now have a minimum speed of 15 megabits per second(mbps)downstream and 2mbps upstream."

As I am an inhome customer I take this to mean me...

Also called the call centre, despite the caps being advertised they apparently aren't available till 1 October....think that might be illegal...

I don't think they will have a legal issue, given that the subtitle of the page clearly states 'Pricing effective 1st Oct 2010'. Nevertheless, it would appear that they have increased both the speed and the allowance. That's good news. Let's keep our fingers crossed on international bandwidth.
