Is anyone else experiencing very poor quality connection to Vodafone's network around central Wellington lately? I have recently had a lot of missed calls and lack of data connection on my iPhone around Wellington. On top of that, battery life has been suffering, i guess because the phone is upping the power to get any sort of signal.

Seriously thinking of changing to Telecom's XT network :-(

My Vodafone 3g phone has been fine here in Wellington, from Upper hutt, to Miramar, to Pukerua Bay. Maybe it's your iphone? Have you updated it recently?

Yes, that is the other possibility although I have not seen any other posts about such problems with iOS 4.1  - so far, that is...

I noticed several issues with data sessions stalling late last week.

Battery life has improved considerably on Vodafone's network in the past month in Wellington since they completed an upgrade. I was interested to see if anybody else commented on this before I mentioned it, because I've certainly noticed an improvement and have also had a number of other people also comment to me that they've noticed 1-2 bars more at the end of a day than what they'd normally see.

Kelburn also has a lot of black spots and holes.

If you have an Android phone have a look at Sensorly (http://www.sensorly.com/). It is an app that created real coverage maps as seen by real phone in real conditions. It is really good as it goes down to the street level (need to have the app to zoom all the way in the site doesn't have that much zoom) and can see hill and building shadows. It is also created by real phones so isn't as optimistic as the the ones the cell companies provide.

Dropped calls 3 times in a row between Voda-Telecom iPhones...My voda initiated the calls. Willis Street, outside Grand Arcade. Rebooted iPhone, then it dropped the third call.

objectively speaking I've had far worse performance since using my company Voda SIM compared to the XT sim I was using for a few months prior.  Data feels much slower when it works, and voice is dropping now where it never did before.  Not impressed with Vodafone these days I have to say...not that I'm bashing them - I just wish they were more reliable and offered a comparable service to XT.

I don't know if it's signal related, but after spending 5 days in Auckland recently I did find the whole 3G browsing experience much snappier up there than I've ever had in Wellington. Addresses resolved faster, pages loaded faster, all very tangible.

Vodafone's 3G service makes we want to weep. I'm located on Queens Wharf in Wgtn, and walk around featherston street/lambton quay regularly. Data connections take an age to establish, if at all. Throughput is OK once connected, but latency is attrocious. Probably 50% of my attempted voice calls result in "Call Failed". I've spoken with people I work with and they have the same complaints.

Maybe Vodafone is suffering as a result of its success as a result of people leaving XT? My company, who pay my phone bill, has an agreement with Vodafone so I'm stuck with their service. But soon I'm to buy my wife an iPhone, and that'll be on XT unless things improve markedly.

Shame, I've been with Vodafone since 1996.

... and I forgot texting problems too. Sometimes arriving hours late, or I receive 2 copies. And now I'm sitting here watching my phone about to fail at sending a text for the second time in a row.

FFS. Not happy.

SMS is a known issue on the network at present. I'm not sure if it's only just Vodafone who has issues, I know there have been ongoing issues over the past few weeks with off net SMS's between all networks.
