Hi I will be moving house soon and intend using xnet fusion instead of telstraclear. Will my e-mail client still be able to access the paradise email service i.e. smtp.paradise.net.nz?

No, you won't. The best approach is always use an ISP-independent email.

Using Gmail is the best way to go now days, or buying a Domain (about $25 per month from http://metaname.co.nz) and using a Google Apps address, this gives you your own personalized email address for next to no cost.

If you are keeping the the paradise account active (ie paying TelstraClear), you would still be still be able to access the pop3.paradise.net.nz server for downloading mail. Sending email would need to use the Xnet smtp server.

If you decided to get a domain name to set up a email specific to that, I would suggest shopping around as even Telecom host nz domains with two email addresses for $40+GST per year https://www.telecombusinesshub.co.nz/Internet/domain/Pages/Basics.aspx

Quite a bit cheaper than the $10 per month to keep the paradise account open.

Thanks for all the replies. Gmail is looking the most future proof option I think.

I'll just leave this here:

Change SMTP server to: smtp.clear.net.nz
Outbound authentication: Enabled
Username: p/username

Enjoy :D

We have switched to Telecom broadband but are keeping a paradise.net email account. Do I need to change the SMTP settings to point to Xtra or keep them with paradise? The POP settings are fine, and we can receive email without any issues.

You will use the Xtra smtp. To send email as your Paradise account though you will need to "authenticate" your paradise email address using the Xtra Webmail interface, otherwise emails will be rejected and not sent.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Haha, I also just learnt that the hard way -
"You have received this message because you have recently attempted to send an email through Yahoo!Xtra Pro Mail from an address that does not match email addresses currently linked to your account.
Due to changes made during the security upgrade, your email has been blocked and therefore not sent."
Thanks for the heads up freitasm!

And for future reference, the instructions for authenticating your account can be found HERE.

EDIT: I still can't send email, after authenticating my account successfully. So, I will set my Xtra email as the default account to reply with.

I know Hotmail is not the flavour of the month these days, but it is another viable alternative, particularly with the recent changes made to the Hotmail web interface.

In addition, in the PC world, it has great integration with the Windows Live Mail desktop client, or the Office Outlook Connector, to deliver a very Exchange-like experience (https traffic, so no worries about ports). Even more so if you have your own domain and use the Windows Live Custom Domains service - domains.live.com. Apart from the domain registration cost, no additional charges.

Hi VinLew,

If you have successfully authenticated the paradise email address you just need to change the outgoing server for that account.

Set the outgoing mail to send.xtra.co.nz and use the xtra username/password combination for authentication to the outgoing server. Then set the smtp server to SSL and the port to 465 and you should be good to go.

I authenticated my paradise.net account but the send.xtra.co.nz settings still failed; after a quick call to the helpdesk I was told to use smtp.xtra.co.nz port 25. Works like a charm.
