I'm looking at adding a T-Box to my TelstraClear package. (I think if I drop my new 20GB plan back to the 10GB I had before and pay the $500 up front, then the monthly fee will be about the same)

However when I went into the shop for a look, the guy told me that if you don't get the HD ticket, even though you still get TV1, 2, and 3 they're not "real HD" and there are problems with picture size and captions not fitting on the screen.

He seemed a bit confused about what he was trying to tell me, so I wonder if anyone can confirm - are TV1, 2, and 3 in HD or not, if you don't have an HD ticket?

What about pay per view movies - are they HD?

Finally, do you have an option to record an HD channel in SD if you need to save disk space?

Thanks,
Pete.

Tv1 tv2 and Tv3 are in HD regardless. You only need the HD ticket to have Sky movies and Sky Sport in HD plus their appropriate package.

No, you can't record an HD channel as SD.
Pay Per View (Nows Good) movies are standard definition only at this stage.

Thanks for the clarification Zolly. Guess I'll be able to dispense with my trusty old Series 1 Tivo now. Just hope I like T-Box as much and that they add some of the cool Tivo features soon (remote programming over the net, and the little skip back after fast forwarding are a couple that spring to mind.)

Cheers again,
Pete.

I had a series 1 TiVo at one point too. Well actually I had two series one tivos.

Three tuners are better than one! (Series one TiVo only had one tuner so you could only record/watch one channel at a time).
