Hi all,

I've been an XNet VFX VoIP user since, as far as I know, local numbers (Nelson) became available in my area.  The VoIP service operates over ThePacific.net's wireless network, as there is no landline to my house.

I've no major complaint about XNet VFX.  But my ISP ThePacific.net has itself begun offering VoIP, and their VoIP is proving slightly more reliable and higher-quality than XNet VFX.  For those reasons, and because they're a local firm, I'd like to keep on with them.  There does not seem to be any point in maintaining two VoIP services.

I'd like, though, to keep the XNet VFX VoIP phone number 03 744 xxxx rather than having to get all my contacts to use the ThePacific.net VoIP phone number 03 989 xxxx (wholesaled, I understand, from TelstraClear).

ThePacific.net have been unable to arrange for the XNet VFX phone number to be transferred to their service.  The ThePacific.net staffer who is telling me this is a personal friend, so I don't think it's a "can't be bothered" problem.

1. Is it possible to port an XNet VFX number to another VoIP provider?

2. If so, how?  Who needs to be contacted, and by whom?

Thank you in advance.

Should be no problem, normally you would contact your new provider (thepacific) and they arrange for the number to be ported from Xnet.

Sounds like it may be a case of the pacific being a small operator and they don't know how or what to do?

Porting is no problem what so ever,

All they have to do is put it into the system, they are not a memeber of the LNMP so I'm guessing they are just a reseller, they will have to work with whoever they are reselling through and go through their process,

Porting is a pretty simple and basic process requiring only the account details and the phone number of the user,

So probably more they are not sure what they need to do, best they talk to the their wholesale provider which is suppling their LNMP services

Thanks, Ragnor and Maverick.  I agree, the request is probably something ThePacific.net have never had to deal with - and probably something they never imagined they would have to deal with.  I've suggested they work through TelstraClear and we'll see where that gets us.
