little note at the bottom mentions VF are testing LTE in Wellington. That's more interesting than going to HSPA+ speeds.

Interesting because they were told not to do an RBI bid because they don't have the rights to any spectrum, So what freq are the test's going into?

I think you can use LTE specturm anywhere, VF probably using some unwanted 1800/2100 spectrum.

Will be interesting to see if Vodafone's 4G is any better than the US carriers and their so called 4G which is really 3.75G

Hopefully by the time they do release 28.8 Mbps service they had solved their network problems.

Also, remember you never get those speeds. First you need mobile devices - none of the current ones will work. Then you need perfect condition. Telecom NZ has a HSPA+ network out there for months now, with 21 Mbps service available. I personally never got more than 6 Mbps with a capable USB device.

Granted, 6 Mbps on cellular is a lot more than a lot of people get these days on DSL. Still, not 21 Mbps.

My reading of the article was that the 28.8 would be provided on the 3G (WCDMA) network, and that LTE was for later.

By the end of this year? There's not long to go in '10 so can't wait to see it, sounds almost too good.

So perhaps 8 Mbps would be achievable on the new VF network.  I'd be happy with that :)

I hope Vodafone still plan to add 3G to places that still only have 2G service.

Given the dialup-esque speeds that I and a lot of people see on VF's data network lately, I'll believe this when I see it.
