Howdy,

Im trying to figure out if an 845 can be unlocked and run on the Telecom network?  I rang the guys that do the Vodafone unlocking and they reckon they haven't been told that 845's need any unlocking to be swapped to Telecom.  Which would mean a straight swap of SIMS would take care of things wouldnt it??  Any help??

Chur Chur,
Kempy.

this phone only supports 900/2100 umts so it will only connect to XT's 2100 network giving very limited coverage mostly in the big cities.

The phone would be no good on the Telecom NZ XT network as above and 100s of other threads on Geekzone XT is %100 3G 850mhz and some infill sites using 3G 2100mhz in the bigger cities.

Vodafone NZ network uses the below bands

900/2100mhz UMTS 3G
900/1800mhz GSM 2G

And every phone sold officially in NZ is unlocked. I'm fairly certain its illegal to lock them fullstop.

Ok stand corrected, dont know where I heard it was illegal. I can tell though the carrier would be very unpopular if they did lock them.

If you lived in Wellington I'd say it was the guy in the 2 Degrees shop that told me it was illegal.  I managed to avoid laughing until I was outside the shop. Laughing

Perhaps he heard it from the same person as you.

The 845 is not SIM locked but since it doesn't do 850mhz 3G it won't work very well on XT. (Or at all, in most places)

So, NO, you can't use it on Xt.

All very informative thank you. What about running the 845 on 2 Degrees? or would that be barking up the same tree as going to Telecom.

Running on 2Degrees is no issue as uses same frequencies as VF, I have mine ticking along nicely on 2D now and am getting to like it more and more now that I've fiddled with it a bit. For the money it's a cracking buy

I see i see.  I figured 2D might be sweet.  Langers1972- Did you get an 845?  What have you tweaked to improve it?  Do you feel there are any pros or cons to changing it to 2D seeing as the 845 comes loaded with the Vodafone modules standard??

Cheers,
Kempy.

Yes I got the 845 which I have flashed with the Celestial Teapot custom rom and overclocked it to 691mhz.

grudge: I was using the thread linked earlier in this thread see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802893
you will need to register an account for the forum so that you download one of the OC'ed roms.
I'm running the TCT_691200_update.zip which runs at 691.2mhz but some people have gone higher with no instability so feel free to experiment :)

There's another topic on this in the Android section http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=70586 which I have used for info
