That's quite a lot to lose. Must be a big switch to 2degrees and XT.

I wonder if that number coincides with the number of people who've had to deal with their customer service center?

I wonder if these decision to remove the $1 fee for calling for support was influenced by the number of cusomters they have lost. It is good for competition for them to lose customers and means they will sharpen their offerings.

There's probably a little smoke and mirrors in these numbers...
How many go to 2deg or other MVNO's????

VF may not still own the 35,000 but I'll bet they're getting revenue from a lot of them still

However it shouldn't stop them wondering what they should be doing better

The headline does not really tell it all here. The main body also highlights Telecom having lost 19,000 customers during the same period.
All in all, this can only be good news for the consumer and shows that competition works.
As an aside, maybe the figure of 35,000 "lost customers" is not accurate, some of these customers may be 3G clients and may not be able to access the network anyway........ just a thought...

The number of customers must be grossly inaccurate - I have my primary plan with XT, a prepay XT stick, an old but active sim from VF plus the new microsim that came free with my iphone and you can bet both telco's are claiming me as two customers each.

The wonderful thing about the telecommunication competition in NZ:
it's not the vendor you like the most, it's the vendor you dislike the least.

Perhaps if Vodafone started looking after on account customers instead of focusing on prepay this number would be less.  Just a thought.

You really should read the original article Kiss

They have lost prepaid customers, postpaid has remained about the same level.  Also, I suspect the figure is more likely to be "active connections", rather than customers as one decent sized corporate could be 1,000 connections and for prepaid there is no real way to identify customers accurately, only connections (as they can be anonymous).

Vodafone is a bit like that hot chick you meet in town who is great fun and looks awesome all glammed up. But by breakfast the next day you realise she's actually a little bit haggard and not really what you signed up for.

Telecom is more like the hot chicks mate. Not quite as good looking, but still a keeper and at least you know what you're getting yourself in for.

You can only cruise on good looks alone for so long....

+1! XD

+1

This is why I left VF, 90% of thir new deals were aimed at prepay. Imagine how you feel spending $50/mo for 600 texts and 60 minutes or something and then magically prepay get $2 for 2 hours...

This was a few years ago, but it still hurts!

... And wasn't best mates released to prepay first??!

that 35K was net customers, possibly including telstraclear customer switches... it appears that they lost 45K prepay customers which must be hurting. the more people that move makes it easier for others to follow

Sure is. All of my friends / family are now on 2 degrees (bar 1, who wanted to go on their account plan, but, doesn't have a drivers licence, so couldn't).
