Need a new cell phone for the parents, just needs to be able to call + txt.  Receving MMS would also be useful.  Anything else is a bonus and will never be utilised.

Important features (in order of importance)
- large qwerty keyboard for txting (they find T9 txt a bit tricky) ; might be ok with qwerty onscreen keybd.
- easy to read screen (they are old)
- battery life (they often forget to charge the phone)
- low price (they don't use cellphone often)
- simple menus (they are old)

I was thinking of the Nokia e75 - $330 @ Eking / $380 @ Mobicity

I also don't mind buying second hand if it was relatively good condition.  Another important thing is battery life as they often forget to charge the phone.  I've used nokia in the past and quite like that the menus are simple, but not sure about the newer nokia's with more functions.  Would prefer to spend <$300.  I also thought about Vodafone 845 for $199, but not sure how they will cope with on screen resistive keypad.

They lost their last phone, so doesn't matter if it goes on telecom or vodafone prepay.

sweet, didn't realise that option existed, it will be a better choice than e75 as long as the keyboard is not too small.  Still would prefer something <$300 if possible.

I had a play on my mates x10 mp, and I was really surprised, tiny keyboard, but surprisingly easy to use. Not a bad unit, nice build, UI is fairly straight forward, but not very android like, not necessarily a problem on that screen size though.

There are also these 2 options with onscreen keyboard for txting

LG GS290

3" 240x400 Resistive TFT

Specs

$180 - $220 on pricespy

Nokia 5230

3.2" 360 x 640 Resistive TFT

Specs

$230 - $300 - $380ish on pricespy

Above would be easier than the 2.8" on screen keypad on the Vodafone 845.  I think I will take my parents into a shop and see what they are capable of doing.

I had a lot of issues with my e75 on XT - drops data connections a lot. Telecom tried to help for a while but never fixed it, have just decided to give up and get something else. It's also fairly flimsy and some of the lining/finishing starts to come loose and fall of eventually. Some days it also seems to randomly chew through a whole lot of battery doing nothing.

Just a word of warning about the touch screen ones. My mum can't use my iPhone because she can't get the hang on the touch screen.
