I will just write bullet points, I really dislike the service they are giving.

-They call you constantly when you say your interested, tell them to wait a week.. They were ringing almost every day for no reason.

-They promised the first month free, when we got the net we only had 5 days remaning, and even after that we were expecting the Month to expire tomorrow. Also the metre updates only once per day, so that rush of downloading had gouged 20gb on our usage of this new month month!? Honestly, they make you enter a new month 1 day early, don't wipe your "free month" usage off.

-They promised a free wireless router, only to say $40 for Geeks on wheels to install. What a waste of month, $90 in total for Geeks on wheels un-nessary services to make sure you put an encryption key on your router. Wireless router only took 30 seconds to setup, (due to time resetting). Simple as pie.

-Promised you can keep your old email address, heck.. We still had half a month left on our old deal and 3 days later they stop the outgoing server. Telstra tries anything to get you away ASAP.

-They do not tell you the correct price on everything individually, they hide, lie and fluctuate the pricing. The so called (Lower cost) deal the have put us on, ended up being alot more.

-Also their frequently calling customer service is awful, you tell them something, another person rings up asking exactly the same thing and they forget.

-Nothing in-place when you go over your usage, they say it as a bonus!? But the overcharge is abit excessive, capping or even no net at all would be preferred. The vagueness of the usage metre means you will most likely leave a couple of GB free just in-case you don't go over.

The internet is great, fast.. Basically most of the automated systems. People side is another story. That's my rant. I feel like they are quite forceful, rude, and darn right intrusive. Do not explain everything your plan has to offer and all the details, they just send Telstra-Clear propaganda.

Is there some metre which updates every hour or is atleast a downloadable program? =(

I don't about you, but I've been very satisfied with our TCL Cable Internet.

Just on this one: You will probably find that it is your old ISP that has blocked you from accessing your old mail servers. Most ISP's wont allow you to send mail through thier servers from another ISP's network. Probably to help stop spam. Just change your outgoing settings to use telstra and you should be fine.

Personally I have never had any hassles with TCL and from reading another of your posts you were warned that the usage meter was slow to update and that you would pay overage charges if you went over your cap.

There is a downloadable program to monitor your usage

http://www.tuc.co.nz/

My experience is that the usage meter is generally quite close to live usage however downloading a heap on your last day is asking for trouble.

The TelstraClear network is technically really good, other than increasingly frequent downtime and usage meter outages. It's a shame their customer service lets them down.

My read of this is if they offered you a free month, it should be a free month, not the rest of the month free. I'm sure they have fine print somewhere that lets them do whatever they want though.

Best not download a bunch of stuff on your last day if you can't access the usage meter. It usually updates every two hours, but it's not particularly reliable.

I rather have to pay for the usage than being slowed down or disconnect. This is me of course. But you knew that before you signed up, right?

Also, if you are moving ISPs there is no way in the word TelstraClear could promise you would keep your previous email address, as they have no control over other company's email systems. Did you get that promise from someone, in writing? Was it a door-to-door sale?

I dont understand the desire of people to have internet that stops functioning when you have used a certain amount. Especially when the ISPs that do that typically have no way to add additional data to them (cough vodafone cough) meaning you are ending up paying a monthly fee for broadband for a part month of broadband and the rest of useless internet.

It's called a budget.  Some people like the idea of knowing that they won't have to pay more than a certain amount, even if the get some nasties in their system or unwittingly download a bunch of stuff.  It may not be mine or your idea of a good thing, but it's better than having to estimate your usage or pay excessive overage.

I suppose I wouldn't really consider it paying for a month's broadband and only getting a couple of weeks.  More like paying for XXGB of high speed.  Once they're used up, lower speed.  It's pretty sensible if you're worried about cost.

To qualify as "technically really good" I believe the network should be reliable, otherwise it's just like a european super car, goes really fast, everyone wants one but it's always breaking down or blowing up.

I think the TelstraClear service is very reliable. You get even better service if you are lucky to be within the HFC (cable modem) area. I have been a customer for more than ten years and could count in one hand the number of time I had to call them.

When we were with them we probably only had 3 or 4 total outages but we got sick of the constant buffering on youtube and the constant crashing of our router due to their network misconfiguration.

I understand both of these problem has now been fixed but I doubt we'll ever go back.  I'm just getting our Telstra Clear phone line disconnected and we will never have to deal with them again :)

Now that we're on a cabinet we get about 9mb/s over ADSL and that's fast enough for our needs.
