Hey team

My parents have been using a clear.net.nz email address for many years now as their primary email address.

A few years back they switched to Xtra for their broadband, but they kept their clear dial-up account as a backup due to some broadband issues in their area. This also meant they kept their clear.net.nz email address.

The broadband issues in their area are now long gone, and they now want to ditch the dial up, but keep the clear.net.nz email (the idea of trying to migrate them to Xtra scares them, as they may miss emails from long long rellies who only have their current email address!)

Can anyone confirm if they can keep a "email address only", and if so, what is the monthly charge.  I have hunted round on the TelstraClear website to no avail.

Thanks in advance

Ross

I have a clear.net.nz email address and don't pay any monthly charges for it.

Cheers

Thanks @gpsboy

I am surprised that a company in this day and age would provide you a "service" without charging for it.  But then again.... Gmail, Hotmail etc etc!

Based on your comment, I will get them to call TelstraClear and see what the go is.  No use them paying for a service (the dial up component) if they are not using it anymore!

TelstraClear have a service called Mail Plus, which gives you an email address, or allows you to maintain your existing one on their servers. I get charged the princley sum of $5.06 incl GST per month for the service, but if what has been mentioned above is true, I might give them a call and see if I can get it for free.

It was set up a long time ago and as I recall it was for customers who didn't have any other services with them.

Cheers

OK there could be something here I didn't realise. I am a TC business customer but don't use their ISP services at present.

If you are not paying for it, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold.

Always a useful question to ask of any free service is where the costs arise and how the service if financed. With Google and Hotmail it's advertising, and yes, you ARE the product being sold.
