From the vodafone website:

Terms and Conditions

  1. If you use data without an Add-on, you will be charged at our casual data use is charged at $1 for up to 10MB each day you use it, and then  $1 per MB thereafter) apply automatically when data is used without an Add-on.

According to that, the absolute maximum you should have been charged for 11.88MB would be ~$12, and likely to be much less if your usage wasn't spread out over too many days.

EDIT: Unless vodafone are charging the $1/day even if you only use a few KB of data in a day, In which case this would be a legitimate price to charge you -- although it IS a bit outrageous if vodafone ARE charging in this manner.

I understood that once you used 1kb you would be charged $1.00 so therefore that would indicate you used Mobile Data on 25 days of the month? I Think the rate is fairly clearly set out. You would be better to have a add on if using any Data on a regular basis

Actually $12 would be closer to the absolute minimum you would be charged, for any normal usage pattern. If you spread that usage over a month (30 days) then the max you would be charged $30, which is pretty close to what was charged.

On 2degrees, you would only have been charged $6 for that data, no matter when or how you used it, on the casual data rate. People don't appreciate this point when comparing the headline rates of $1/10MB and 50c/MB. Casual browsing on 2degrees is often cheaper than you expect for this reason.

This is incorrect.

From memory data is charged at $5 per MB until you reach $1. This means you use roughly ~200kb until you then reach the $1 per day limit and will receive the next 9.8MB free.

If you only used 250kb per day over 31 days you could pay $31 for transferring around 8MB of data.

Unless you use data very irregularly a data plan is the best option.

Correct me if I'm working but I think Vodafone NZ Casual Data works like this.. It is $1 per MB until you've used up to 10MB that day. It reduces from $5/MB to $1/Day (max at 10MB) then it is $1/MB for over 10MB.

So you may have used 11MB but if you're not used them up to 10MB each day, it'll cost $1/MB.

screw that... no wonder people are leaving in droves... I always thought it was worked out on the the part of the data you use... e.g. 1mb = 10c

No wonder my money never lasted long on this network.

I think it's actually quote logical for the $1 per day play.

Vodafone bill in 10kb rounded increments, if you had a phone continually extablishing a PDP context for data and passing no traffic that would be under 1c per data session which would require rounding up yet again to 1c and would be an absolute nightmare to bill.

If the casual rate was always 10c per MB, why would anyone buy the 100MB for $10 addon (BB Lite)? There would be no point to it.

Because I assumed it was 10c MB up to 10MB.

If you plan to go over 10MB then it gets pretty expensive!
