This could fix the problem but what will it do to the broadband data cap.

If the carriers give them away for free fine but if you have pay extra for a service that a carrier should be supplying as a part of your fone use cost then no..

It really depends exactly what purpose you're using the Femto for. Many people regard them as simply a way of fixing dodgy coverage areas which is quite a narrow view of what they do.

Here in NZ we're lucky enough to have two nationwide 3G networks, however in the UK Vodafone found a surprising number of people buying the devices simply to deliver 3G coverage into areas that currently have GSM coverage.

Likewise they can improve capacity and also have the ability to offload data of the cellular network. There are examples of companies in the UK who now rely on mobile devices and 3G. The ability to let these devices connect to a femto and deliver fantastic 3G speeds has advantages and means they can infact be used as a replacement for WiFi in the office.

There are also aspects of UMA which are also appealing meaning that you can offload voice to a local PBX while within range of a femtocell.
