Not sure what happened,

Vodafone have reduced the number allocations that are available!!!!

Numbers avail are

300000 -> 550999
605000 -> 689999
701000 -> 784999
All numbers can be used for data and switchers.

800000 -> 899999 has been Frozen jun 05.
the 7 digit on accounts are no longer avail. 222 XXXXXX

Prepay number ranges are (guess)

0210000000 - 0212220000
0212300000 - 0212999999
02102000000 - 02103500000 (yes 8 digit numbers!)

There is more info coming about the "switcher" numbers. will update when in.

I thought the number ranges where all done by Telecom.

Perhaps as we have number portability coming in April 2007 the Telecos are doing a tidy up or have been restricted to what numbers  they can use.

number ranges

numbering

(PS Im loving added links in Firefox now)

Im still confused by number portabilty as if my number is 021 4444444  with Vodafone and I move to say Telecom I presume I get 027 4444444 but what happens if 027 4444444 is being used so I would need to choose another number so how is this number portability??

I do know in the bad old days you could reserve your number on 025 and 021

I just remebered where I read about this over at the commerce commision

so I stay as 021 4444444 but Telecom send me my bill If I understand that below

Overview
Local and cellular telephone number portability are both regulated services under the Telecommunications Act 2001. Local number portability enables a customer to change their telecommunications provider but retain the same telephone number within a local calling area. Cellular number portability enables a cellular customer to change their provider but retain the same telephone number, including the same cellular network access code.

Under the Act, a person who qualifies as an access seeker for either number portability service may apply to the Commission for a determination of:

  • the functions that must be performed by a system for delivering number portability and the standard to which those functions must be performed;
  • the formula for how the cost of delivering number portability must be apportioned between the access seeker and all access providers of number portability.

The Commission received two applications in respect of number portability:

  1. TelstraClear, CallPlus, Compass, IHUG and Worldxchange applied on 26 March 2003 for a determination of the allocation of costs for provision of number portability amongst the industry;
  2. TelstraClear, Telecom and Vodafone applied on 24 December 2004 for a determination of the functions and standards necessary to provide number portability.

Number portability means that the number will remain the same, including the prefix.

No longer 021 will be exclusive to Vodafone, and you will see 021 numbers serviced by Telecom, 027 numbers serviced by Vodafone and so on.

You can move to Telecom and your number will remain 021 4444444, and vice-versa.

hrm, i thought the whole point of number portability was that if you already are with Vodafone and have 021 4444444 and you move to telecom then you keep 021 4444444

Correct me if i'm wrong, but what would be the benefit of only keeping the number and not the network code as well?!

Thanks that clears that up.  He He have a 021 Vodafone number and being billed by Telecom and vice versa thats funny and ironic.

Lets hope there is enough smarts between Telcos as like MMS interconnection look how often that goes astray might get crossed lines and what about the billing hicups and also add to this the delays in going from one Telco to the other like getting ADSL.

April 2007 is going to be worth waiting for and Geekzone will need more bandwith for all the extra posts.
