This past week I visited my brother. He is with xnet and was capped because he had exceeded his cap. It was a holiday so we didn't feel like ringing up the helpdesk. Anyway, his brother in law, who is also with xnet just changed the ADSL login to his login, and the internet was back to full speed again.

Did this work because both parties were with xnet, or would it have also worked if they were with different isps (e.g. one with xnet and one with snap)?

[I guess it won't work with Telecom as i understand that they authenticate by port rather than login, and it wouldn't work for llu lines either, but would it work for other isps that rely on Telecom wholesale.]

Nothing urgent, just more curiousity than anything.

You can update your cap in real time (almost) on the website.

You have to be careful though. I'm pretty sure that's against the terms and conditions of your ISP..
But yes, it only worked because you are both on Xnet

You used to be able to do that on the old jetstream logins and on 128k connections, but they are tunneled to the ISP now so thats why its handy to have a friend on the same ISP,

Time to find a new industry!
