Doesn't seem to matter which server I choose, my 15/2 hfc cable connection doesn't run faster than 7/2.

As you can see from my testing, it used to.

What gives?

Are others in Chc seeing this as well?

What about Wellington, what are you guys seeing?

You should use the Christchurch server for testing. Wellington server is not peered so it won't give any meaningful results.

I did.

In my earlier tests I used chc and akl.  The akl servers were faster.

See the tests from 1 Dec 2010.

No such issues here (TCL WLG cable to Snap CHC):

Interesting. Wonder if it's caused by the new fandangled ERX box they just put in chch?

Might go run some tests at a few other sites here in chch using hfc to see if I'm going mad.

There are various reasons why speedtests can show incorrect figures. Do you have any real word examples of speed such as an Akamai download which should be ~15Mbps?

No.  I'm not sure how Akamai would impact speedtest.net results.

I'm not asking if my hfc con will run at 15/2.  I'm looking at the speedtest.net results.

Did you see the NA Nog thread on this issue over night?  California are looking an legislating performance based on Speedtest.net.

I always get the highest number from the Auckland servers. There's a new one now, the older one is still faster. Try it again in a few days, see what happens.

Great... but what cable in Christchurch is running at that speed? Not my cable, that's for sure.

Bummer, your upload is better than mine (TelstraClear cable, Wellington):

But his download speed isn't as good... interesting.

Still not very helpful to me.

Also less helpful when TC just manage the handovers to other providers at half the link speed.

I didn't know Snap had a cable network here... or are they just reselling TC? Got a link to a pricing and coverage page?

Since you haven't replied yet I'm going to take a stab and askl if you're using your SPA2102 as your router are you? If so it will explain the problem since the ethernet chipset in this can only route ~7.5Mbps tops (with overhead) which equates to around 7Mbps real world speeds.
