Hey guys,I'm getting atrocious pings to Gamearena servers in Aussie. It seems like the inter connection between Vocus and Telstra in Sydney (maybe Equinix, not sure how things are structured there). Anyone else experiencing this? Could you please check this with Vocus Maverick :)

I do find my pings to be very very awful to Gamearena. Just last night I was playing F.E.A.R Combat on a Gamearena server, and my ping was 260ms. I have two other friends who are on Snap (We are all in ChCh) and their ping was 80ms.

You could ring Xnet and ask to get interleaving turned off, but I'm not sure how much of a reduction you'd get ping wise.

Already have interleaving turned off. The problem seems to be with Xnet's international provider, Vocus. I'll ring them up.

Yeah there is def a traffic issue here to australia at the moment through xnet.
My brother and I play Xbox Live online gaming. If we are hosting a game (both different houses, different suburbs etc) then Australians will get bad ping to us and visa-versa. At the same time our friends who are with other providers (mostly telecom) will have very good ping to the same server.

Experiencing jitter of about 40ms or so often and about 4% packet loss.

That looks like a reasonable latency to Australia from NZ.  I'd also note that it's going across peering (at least in one direction) rather than via a transit link.

If you are wondering why the highlighted-in-bold links 'appear' to be in the same city but have a latency spike, it will be due to ICMP tunneling within an MPLS network (the packet is returned from the far-end router, in this case in Australia).

That one is going to the US, not Australia, and the latency also looks normal.  Same story for the apparent huge increase in latency in Auckland.

Ohhh looks like Xnet are now on Pacific IX (I presume that's Vocus at APE)

I don't believe PacificIX is live yet.  That's just Vocus' peering presence at APE, where they announce their customer routes, including AussieHQ.

Yeah it seems that on our static IP range it's fixed but on the dynamic one (118.90.) the issue is still there. Looking into it again.
