I am always very dubious of anyone who comes to the door to sell me anything.  Normally I just turn them away or ask them to leave me some details.

Tonight I got a visit from a chap "claiming" to be from TelstraClear.  I explained that I had moved to Sky because of the PVR incompetence and was still within the 12 month contract (expires May ish).

He explained that because Sky and TCL are so close - presume he meant like BFFs or something - that Sky will waive the early termination fee as they technically still have a customer.

He showed me that I would be at least $7 a month better off under TCL for TV on the same plan and offered the first 2 months line rental free ($85.88 x 2) to entice me to move over!

Firstly, I doubt that Sky will waive the early termination fee.  Secondly, when I asked if he worked for TCL or an independent marketing company, he explained that "he's been with TCL for quite a while" and that he is in the office almost daily - like an employee!

I will probably ring TCL and Sky to see if what he is saying is true.  Has anyone else been offered this?  I'm a big believer of if it sounds too good to be true......

He has left me a leaflet which says - no contract, free installation and all the usual blurb.  He even mentioned Geekzone - so if you are reading this - nothing personal, I just don't trust any sales people!

Thoughts?
(Mauricio - I've seen your comments about this kind of snake oil - but your input is always very welcome)

Sounds dodgy to me. "I'm in and out of the office" is not "I work for XYZ Limited, here is my ID".

I would not trust it. Sky TV and TelstraClear are separate companies - and competitors in that space.

Also, no identification?

It sounds dodgy.

And I would advise you to double check door/window locks are secure when you leave the house, If your house has an alarm arm it aswell.

Been a few cases floating around where door salesmen were fake and were scoping the house to break in

As far as I know as its a door to door sales person the agreement has to be in writing and signed by you with identification on who they are.. blah blah blah..

 Hey Starblazer

It is true Telstra Clear and SKy have a strong affiliation with each other. SKy customers can switch over to Telstra without been charged any termination fee occurring.  Sky allows this as Telstra is in effect their biggest customer, with buying SKY channels to broadcast and repackage with Saturn channels. SKY will only allow Telstra to sell their TV package as long as they sell it combined with Phoneline or broadband.
If the guy turning up at door has a PHOTO ID with Telstra printed on it then you can believe he is from Telstra.

Note the above statement is not from an account related with TelstraClear. There is no 'Telstra' in New Zealand either.

Hey Mauricio

As you know my position in Telstraclear my statement can be taken Seriously,

Yes Sky TV will waive the ETC for any customer leaving them and taking TV with TCL..

Tho the person who came to the door just yeah um.. No comment?
Always ask for a name and if it seems too good to be true then just give TCL a call!

Hope this helps.
