Hi guys,
This is my first post here, i have spent plenty of time trawling the AV forums for information which has been hugely helpful!
I have a flat at the moment, where we have an Xnet Fusion Account for broadband and VOIP.
Our old flattie was pretty tech savvie, and had set everything up for us, but has since moved out and taken his modem with him.
We set up a temporary wireless modem/router, which is fine for internet, but didnt support VOIP, so our phones sit useless..
I have a couple of parts laying around that I am hoping will be able to get everything up and running, but would like some advice first..
We have a WRP400 Router with plugs for phone connection, as well as a (second hand) Dynalink RTA1335, (the one we have been using to supply internet for the last few months).
From what i can understand reading here, you can configure the 1335 in a 'Half Bridge' mode, and use it as a pass through for the WRP400 to be the router?
How does that work in terms of security for the wireless and the VOIP? do I need to set up WEP on both the RTA1335 and the WRP400?.
Unfortunately I am still learning about Networking, so only have rudimentary knowledge, but am wondering if this is something i can hope to achieve? or if we should just start fresh and cough up $300 odd for an all in one router / modem / VOIP..
Is the overall internet experience going to be better with a new all in one versus the combo mentioned above?
We often have 3-4 laptops on the internet wirelessly, and i am hoping to integrate a WDTV live hub on the network that i have added to the lounge, but really need to get the router/s etc set up and working with the VOIP before i touch that.
Any advice, or direction to useful reads to help educate me some more on this would be greatly appreciated :) The more basic an explanation the better for me :P
Thanks,
Mike.
