I'm currently Planning to visit japan soon, and im quite in trested in there Mobile phones and i was wounder if anyone knew what English/Japanese Bilingual Means and Will i be able to top my Mobile back up in Newzealand, I do not want to spend the Money if its not going to be workable.

Auto roaming

Available in Japan and in overseas countries and regions with W-CDMA and GSM (900/1,800/1,900MHz) networks. [ does this mean it can work in newzealand?]

bi-lingual means that the phone should be able to display options/menus in either language.

if you are unaware of how a language setting applies to you, then take my advice, dont touch the setting, its worthless to you. it wont give you extra functionality, but merely change the display text (do you read japanese?)

as long as a phone displays in english, and uses a frequency that is in use here, then it should work fine for voice and sms. pxt/mms/wap and other settings will need to be figured out yourself (search the net), Vodafone will NOT support an imported handset (cause you didnt buy from them, so they wont incur cost of time to help you).

The phone is pretty averagely specc'd anyway, I would just buy one here, get local warranty and support if anything doesnt work.

Thanks for your help, I though they may consider because its also vodafone. Also you cannot buy this phone here, and in japan its the 3rd of the price for any of there phones

Yes, you can use this phone here. The frequencies it supports (as you list) are those that are used in NZ, which would be WCDMA, and 900Mhz... And maybe 1800Mhz in confined urban areas.....

But yes, as long as it's not sim locked, you can use that here. Calling, video calling should be no problem. But perhaps for Vodafone Live, the full experience with Mobile TV, etc, that may be restricted (see other threads for more info)...

Your SIM card from Vodafone NZ will not work in Japan on Auto roaming (prepay) You will need to apply for global roaming
