Hey Guys, I am currently on Vodafone super prepay and am using bestmate.

I am looking at changing my plan to Prepay Mobile Broadband.

Anybody know if I would still be able to have the bestmate option? Seems that bestmate is only available on super prepay.

Cheers

Hi I would have thought the best option would be to tether the phone, purchase the datapack as a addon. Then you could stay on Super prepay with Best mate

The only datapacks available on super prepay is Mobile Internet 2Go - 50MB of data for $6.

All the bigger ones are only available on mobile broadband plan :-(

Dont want to loose out on bestmate either.

I have checked, according to this thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=76008 you can get 2Gb of Internet Download for $50.00 as a super prepay add on. Also 500 mb packages avilable too.

Thats not for super prepay.

You have to be on Prepay Mobile Broadband to access them.

Seems like Johnr's post was incorrect.

I have tried purchasing the 500MB by sending a text to 756, buytopup500mb.

This is the response I receive:

Sorry the plan or addons u already have mean you cant get TopUp500MB.

Have no problem switching to the mobile broadband prepay plan, just want to make sure that I can still buy the bestmate addon.

well I think prepaid mobile broadband is the way to go.
But I dont like Vf's mobile BB plans.
why would you need a bestmate addon when you can use mobile BB for non stop twitter, facebook, msn, skype calling etc.

Ever tried skype calling (or any kind of VOIP calling) over vodafones mobile network?

Besides skype calling would quickly chew up a large chunk of my mobile data anyway.

I am not using skype actually, but you can see my point.
I use 2talk voip with sipdroid, so free calling between all 2talk numbers.
+ much cheaper landline and mobile calls for national & internation calls.
Not much data really, depending on the codec you are using I think.
I use about 200mb in total for browsing, fb, twitter, voip, etc

Need to mention the app, Viber & whatsapp for calling & txting, best app I have ever used.

But even if i was running a VOIP client like 2talk I would still have to pay the 2talk charges (25c per minute) to mobiles. Then on top of that my data charges.

Sorry dont see how this could compare with bestmate (1000 minutes free per month)

Thats going to cost you an arm and a leg even with 2talk.

if the other party use smartphone too with 3g or wifi connection, it will definitely save you some bucks
if you want bestmate only, then yes best mate is the best option available.
But we are talking on the basis you want both best mate + mobile BB right?
Then it is going to be $6 + mobile BB = extra $$$
then in the later case, mobile BB alone will cover everything including your best mate cost.
Drop best mate if you buy 3g data pack.
2talk may not work for you, but as I mentioned, 2talk and 2talk calling are free, dont call normal mobiles then.
but app such as the ones I mentioned may help, skype, viber for free call & txt, whatsapp for free txt and etc

You should be able to purchase this been on Supa Prepay but you you only purchase a topup after you have added a data bundle to start with

All sorted now, thanks John for the help.

My existing 50MB bundle had to be cancelled. I am now able to purchase these other larger data packs. And I still have my bestmate.

Voip is fine on Android, BUT I find that for best results I need to:

1. stand still ie not in a moving vehicle,
2. have near perfect reception.

I have tried to use it but it is not anywhere near the same as GSM calling. At this point in time you can not expect one to substitute VOIP for normal calling on a mobile platform.
