Having just got my T-Box and reading the forum on Padding, I am a bit confused as to what is should be
set at. The Manual says that it is set to 2 minutes by default but mine is set to 0. Some say set it to 5 or even 10 minutes. What should it be set at.? Is it a matter of trial and error.?

The padding is at your choice. When you record something at 10:30 and on the guide it says it ends at 11:00, if your padding is set to 0 you will only get 30 minutes of recording.

If you set your padding to 2 minutes, it will record 2 mins before and after (10:28 - 11:02) thus giving you a recording of 34 minutes.

This is up to you... :)

If you have recordings/series link already set and you change your padding.... those recordings/series link must be stopped and be set for recording again.

Thanks. Well what if you want to record a second program on another channel that starts at 11:00, or if the first program starts later than shown. It appears you are totally relying on programs starting and finishing as advertised. Or am I missing something.? If, as others say, you should set the padding to 5 minutes, then this would make the situation worse.?

The T-Box has three tuners so you can watch a program and record two programs simultaneously, so the 10PM to 10:30PM Program 1, 10:30PM-11PM Program 2 recording scenario is not an issue. It is an issue if you are trying to record multiple programs which overlap by the buffer timing, ie two in the 10PM-10:30PM slot and one in the 10:30-11PM slot.

You are however correct in saying that the process relies on the programs starting and ending at the scheduled times, they don't always and if you fail to include a buffer you may loose the endings which is frustrating. I have opted for 15 mins buffers which is a little extreme and tedious at the front end of a program but I don't miss the endings. The T-Box needs a function that will allow you to step through a recording in X minute chunks which would make finding the start easier.

Thanks for that explaination. I am now a little wiser. The padding we have at present if set to 0 so I will change that to perhaps 10 minutes and that will solve my concerns. Cheers.

Can you set the padding for just the end of the programme? I would like 3mins padding at the end to ensure I don't miss an ending - but don't necessarily need 3 mins lead time at the beginning.

Although I am new to the T-Box I am pretty sure you can't do as you suggest. Whatever padding you set is the same for both the start and finish. It is not like the old Decoder which was much better in this regard. This appears to be a step back in design in my opinion.
