Hi all

I have my AirPort Express connected to my Vodafone HG556a wirelessly. iTunes on my notebook sees the speakers for a while and plays to them but after less than a minute they "disappear". The green light on the AirPort Express stays on.

My iPhone 4 is yet to "discover" the speakers.

Any suggestions? Some sort of firewall issue in the HG556a?

I have previously had the exact same devices and configuration working fine via a Pocket WiFi device with no issues.

Had similar issues with the same hardware combination. Don't recall exact steps I took, but here are a couple of links that might provide some help.

1. https://discussions.apple.com/message/8138018?messageID=8138018

2. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1135339

Will try to find what solved it for me and post back.

Thanks.

I have mucked around with all sorts of hardware resets and different combinations of ethernet connections to configure etc.

Can you can post the firmware version of your router as well please.

Couldn't find what I read about this. Rechecking other forums showed manu have same issue (example http://forums.cnet.com/7723-21579_102-391034.html#message3310265), but I found no definitive answers.

Take a look at this blog post: http://adamantventures.com/blog/airport-express-setup-troubleshooting/

It's about the most comprehensive setup troubleshooting guide I have spotted.

FWIW my setup is like this:

Airport:
Wireless mode: Join a wireless network
Wireless network name: My network name as set on HG556a
Wireless security WPA/WPA2 (as set on the HG556a)
Channel: 1 (Automatic)

Internet:
Connect using:Wireless Network
Connection sharing: off (Bridge mode) - (HG556a does all DHCP)
TCP/IP: Manual IP address 192.168.1.3, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Router address 192.168.1.1

Music:
Air tunes enabled

I only get your symptom if I powercycle myHG556a. Occasionally if I do that I will end upo with same issue (green light on AE, but iPhone and other airtunes devices no longer discover it). In this case I powercycle the AE and it all works flawlessly for days.

Hope that is of some help.

Thanks. I got sick of the mucking around and instability so bought a pair of HomePlugs and now have my Airport Express as a wireless AP in my room ethernet wired back to the router via HomePlugs, all is working as it should.

Cheers.

I have the same setup, but never had any problems with Airplay Speakers not being available.
