Auckland / North Shore - I've been walking to work the past 7 months or so. My walk takes me along Sunset Rd between Glenfield Rd and the Constellation Park & Ride.

This part of my walk takes about 20 minutes. During that time I mainly do not have any 3G connectivity and often don't even have GPRS. On one occasion I was on a call talking and sending texts and when I reached the western side of the motorway overbridge my call was dropped, txts wouldn't send...and of course no data as usual.

It seems odd this road is a black spot as it is the top of the low ridge and you have good visibility in all directions most of the time. The distance is between 2 and 3 kms.

It's been fairly frustrating as I walk both ways and thus have over 40 minutes of the combined times that I can't do any data.

Anyone else have any similar urban data deserts on Vodafone?

I find Vodafone coverage in Auckland appalling compared to Wellington, with most of the North Shore being particularly bad. It is more common to have a 2G signal than a 3G one, and I find it drains the battery on my iPhone significantly faster than when I am in other cities.

Sadly I use a work SIM so I have no choice of carrier, otherwise I would be on XT

The answer is in your post

' ridge line '

I know Sunset Road very well I live just round the corner. If you can lock your handset to 3G only it should work much better along Sunset Road

Thanks, John.

I'll try that.
