I am investigating getting Vodafone New Zealand Naked broadband.
I do not live in the red zone as indicated my Vodafone New Zealand.

I checked my address on the Vodafone web site for Naked broadband and it said I should ring Vodafone to check.

I rang Vodafone and got a nice man who checked for me and said "no".
The service was not available, but check back in the next month as the service was being rolled out in the area.

A few weeks later I checked the web site again and this time it indicated that Vodafone Naked broadband was now avialble at the address.

I rang Vodafone.

The Vodafone salesman on the line said the service may or may not be available at my address and that if I wanted the service, they would have to test it.

OK, thats sounds fine.

BUT, if the service was not available, I would have to pay to have Telecom NZ reconnect my phone line to restore my original Telecom NZ service.

What????

Is this now the process works for Vodafone New Zealand Naked broadband setup when outside the red zone as indicated by Vodafone New Zealand???

Naked BB is dependant if you are on rural exchange or not. Vodafone does not make the call what is considered rural.

Why does Vodafone choose not to provide naked DSL on rural exchanges?

No, doesn't really answer the question. N-DSL is not dependant on whether or not you are connected to a "rural" exchange. I'm connected to a rural exchange and get N-DSL just fine - obviously not with Vodafone. The only difference is the price. So my question still stands, why does Vodafone choose not to provide this at rural exchanges - especially since their Sure Signal product (Handy in rural areas) needs a Vodafone broadband connection?

Located in the Hamilton suburbs approximately 500m from a Telecom exchange 'bunker/building' as the crow flies which would have a DSLAM in for sure. And if people on my street/area have Vodafone home and broadband as stated by the Vodafone salesman, then whats the problem.

Vodafone saleman seemed to think ADSL was completely different to DSL and that one didn't mean the other would be available. Take away the analogue signal and what do you have.

At that point I though the conversation with this Vodafone saleman had reached a timely end.

Anything over 5km from a DSL mux (as I understand) would be a show stopper without some sort of repeater. But like most things tech has probably moved on and the signal probably can be boosted further.

I'm sure everything would be fine if there's a Vodafone ULL in the area (which Vodafone must know) and given that the Vodafone saleman had my address, one would have thought he'd have talked happy talk.

Vodafone didn't say anything wrong (Telecom reconnect????), just made me feel like I was requesting something almost impossible, from with the Hamilton suburbs with a Vodafone address that indicated Naked broadband was available.

Just because Vodafone have Red Network in your area does not account for the fact you may currently be served by a roadside cabinet, in which case you may not be able to get on said Red Network

ADSL was completely different to DSL

The A in ADSL stands for Asymmetric not Analog, the bit you want removed is the POTS or voice service.

I'm NOT in the Vodafone red zone as indicated by the Vodafone site map (Hamilton approx. 2km from CBD)

My address now indicates (last few weeks) that Naked broadband 'may be' available at my address.

@Cyril - It's good to be corrected, as I wasn't being strict with my terminology.

So what does the Vodafone site/address location check mean when it says you are NOT in the red zone, BUT 'indicates' you can get Naked Broadband.

The way I see it (AND I could be completely wrong) was that if there is an 'indication' that Naked Broadband service is available AND Vodafone know my address AND Vodafone knows that placement of their equipment/services, thus the distances involved, wouldn't an informed answer be available.

I'd be gob smacked if a sales rep had access to all that information and could give a timely answer, but I thought maybe a following up check (If no one else has bought Naked broadband in the area) with the techies would be able to provide additional information even if that meant a call back the next day or something.

Just seems I'm the first (given maybe the service has only been available in the area for a few weeks) in the area to request Naked broadband.

I was really just looking for some confirmation that I could get Naked broadband, or even given my location a percentage of connection probability.

If available, I do want to purchase Vodafone Naked broadband.

Just seems a complete unknown with the information I have at hand at the moment.

Nobody else gone through this process in a location outside of the red zone????

I'm sure Vodafone will sort me out in the end. They've been pretty good in the past.

More calls I guess.

Doh! Just spoke with a nice Vodafone sales lady and she said the same as the first guy, "No"

Not even a small chance. In fact no chance.

I have no idea what the guy previously was basing his information on, Oh well.

And I did so want Naked broadband.

Sounds odd.

Pretty much any ISP can provide Naked ADSL via Telecom wholesale equipment in pretty much all exchanges/cabinets now.

This sounds like either a weird policy decision by Vodafone or simple lack of clue from the salespeople. I guess it could be possible the exchange doesn't support naked adsl OR there are no free ports currently but that seems very unlikely.

So what exchange/cabinet are you on? Check your address here:

PS: I'm sure Xnet, Snap or Maxnet would be happy to sign you up with a naked adsl plan.

You can sign up to the Naked DSL plan from Vodafone regardless of whether you are in the red area network or not.

If you were in the red area network, you get $10/month cheaper access. CSR is clueless.

ps - Red network from VF is only available in Auckland as of now. You will be paying VF $95 for 30GB on Naked DSL or $106 odd for 30GB with a phone line. If you have a mobile connection on contract with VF then you can subtract $30 from you monthly bill. i.e $65/month for 30GB for naked DSL in Hamilton providing you have a post paid mobile connection with them.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Sorry and yes you are correct about the rural exchange part with VF. I should have mentioned it. Only applicable if you are counted in URBAN category.

Mellville, Hamilton exchange.

It's a very depressing map though (For me). I'm about four houses away from the edge of the VDSL2 zone.
I could throw stones at the smug gits with access to VDSL2. It goes half way up the crescent I'm on!!!.
I'm in an exchange zone which doesn't indicate ADSL2+

I'm pretty confident we can get ADSL as we have 8(eight) WiFi routers surrounding us on all sides. :-)

Rural naked adsl is roughly $20/month more than Urban, pretty weird Vodafone won't offer it... other ISP's do:
