Is it just me having a real slow time of it since yesterday, especially (but not only) international sites... soooooo slooooooow to respond.  DNS getting hammered again maybe?

It seems to be something regards DNS, for example if I do:

boffin@mortimer:/bigdrive/home/boffin$ ping www.google.com
PING www.l.google.com (203.97.30.147) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 203.97.30.147: icmp_req=1 ttl=60 time=21.9 ms
64 bytes from 203.97.30.147: icmp_req=2 ttl=60 time=21.6 ms
...

and then do

boffin@mortimer:/bigdrive/home/boffin$ ping 203.97.30.147
PING 203.97.30.147 (203.97.30.147) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 203.97.30.147: icmp_req=1 ttl=60 time=23.6 ms
64 bytes from 203.97.30.147: icmp_req=2 ttl=60 time=26.9 ms
...

While the ICMP response times are equivalent, on the first one using the domain name between each an every response there is an AGE (seven seconds!) while obviously some DNS lookup is being done, so it takes like 21 seconds to get those two responses.

Are you sure it's not your network? I am not seeing this here...

Can't rule out it being a problem here, but given Olof was to be working on reorganising the TelstraClear DNS servers this month...

I don't think it's a happening thing at this stage...

Really? Do you have inside information on that?  Abandoned plans totally?
